Hotels focused on experiential stay, exceptional design and amenities also attracted a rate premium, the report said. Boutique hotels are classified into independent boutique, lifestyle hotels and soft brand collections. The Boutique Hotel Report 2022 has said that upper midscale, upscale and luxury soft brand collections recovered strongly in 2021 in performance metrics against their US upscale counterparts, while the upper upscale class was ahead in rate recovery and lagged in occupancy. According to the report, lifestyle upper upscale and luxury hotels recovered at parity with their counterparts, while upper midscale and upscale lifestyle hotels reported slower recovery in both occupancy and average rate. "Upper midscale and upscale independent boutique hotels in urban locations recovered at a stronger pace than all U.S. hotel in urban locations in both performance metrics.

AHLA's Rogers joins cast of TV series 'Hotels ByDesign' - 0 views

The program's host Mike Chapman will showcase up to 35 hotels across the U.S. throughout its four half-hour episodes. The installation of Tesla's Universal Wall Connectors at selected hotels will begin in 2024.     NETHERLANDS-BASED CITIZENM HAS inaugurated its first hotel at Meta's Menlo Park campus in California, marking its second U.S. opening this year after the launch of citizenM Miami Center. CitizenM currently operates 14 hotels in the U.S. and has plans for additional openings in 2024, including locations in Austin, Boston, and another in South Beach, Miami. The global hospitality company was founded by Rattan Chadha in 2015. The five-story hotel, spanning 79,400 square feet, features 240 modular rooms, citizenM said. The brand's modular design has not only reduced construction waste by up to 60 percent but has also shortened the development timeline by three to four months compared to traditional construction methods. The hotel at Meta's Frank Gehry-designed headquarters campus has been designed by citizenM's architectural partner, Baskervill. "We're excited to open in Menlo Park, a burgeoning tech hub," said Robin Chadha, chief brand officer at citizenM. " CitizenM, designed to seamlessly connect remote and in-person work with private nooks and versatile workspaces in our Living Rooms, along with societyM meeting rooms. Founded in 2020 by long-time hoteliers Jay Patel and John Parkin, Urban Park Hotels is designed to attract hoteliers away from larger franchises with simplified standards and lower fees using membership over franchising. The new brand, which joins existing brands Urban Park Hotel & Suites and Urban Park Hotel Express, follows that same philosophy. "After collaborating with our team, especially during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, we noticed that a lot of small motel owners were either closing their properties or trying to 'wait it out' and see what happens," Parkin said. "We also had to readjust our development strategy and wait for the industry to rebound. During this period we created Urban Park Motel, a flag that will reward good motel owners with an opportunity that the large hotel franchise companies have overlooked due to size, location and total expected revenue."

The EVPassport Hotel Cloud, a variation of the company's cloud platform designed specifically for the hospitality industry, offers several options beside a simple charge. Guests can use the platform to locate the hotel on all EV charging location maps and apps. It allows owners to set charging prices, manage access and get details on energy usage, earnings history and carbon offset. EVPassport Hotel Cloud's "scan and charge" QR code technology allows users to pay without needing fobs, apps or cards. Hotels get an extra revenue stream from the stations, which can be wrapped in the hotel's name, logo and colors.

STR: Slight fall in U.S. hotel performance in first week of February - 0 views

    U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE fell slightly in the first week of February from the week before, according to STR. Occupancy was 55.3 percent for the week ending Feb. 4, down from 56.3 percent the week before and decreased 7.3 percent from 2019. ADR was $145.35 during the week, increased from $142.66 the week before and up 13.9 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $80.45 in the first week, slightly up from $80.32 the week before and up 5.6 percent from January 2019. None of STR's top 25 markets saw an occupancy increase during the week. Las Vegas came closest to its 2019 occupancy at 78.2 percent, down 1.4 percent. It also reported the highest ADR, up 79.5 percent to $221.38 and RevPAR, up 76.9 percent to $173.20, over 2019 mainly due to Design & Construction Week 2023 and the NFL Pro Bowl Games.

    BANYAN INVESTMENT GROUP recently acquired the Castle Hotel, part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, in Orlando, Florida. The hotel recently underwent an $8.2 million renovation on its guestrooms, public spaces and exterior. The 213-room hotel is on Universal Boulevard near the city's key attractions, Disney's Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios, according to Atlanta-based Banyan, led by Rakesh Chauhan, managing partner and CEO. Also nearby is the site of Epic Universe, a 750-acre, $1 billion theme park expected to open in 2025, which will be the largest Universal Park in the U.S. and second largest globally. The Castle Hotel, which is designed to look like a medieval fortress, also is close to the 270-acre Lockheed Martin regional headquarters that employs 8,000 people. Also nearby are the Orlando International Airport, including the recently opened $2.8 billion, 15-gate international Terminal C, as well as the Orlando Convention Center. Brightline High Speed Rail plans to open two stations in the area.

    STAFF MEMBERS OF two hotel industry associations donned blue in January to recognize National Human Trafficking Prevention month. AAHOA and the American Hotel & Lodging Association also sought to encourage hotel owners to take advantage of their educational programs on detecting and preventing trafficking in their properties. Like his predecessors since 2010, President Joe Biden issued a proclamation officially designating January as the month to focus awareness on trafficking prevention, according to the U.S. Department of State. The month recognizes the work done by foreign governments, international organizations, anti-trafficking entities, law enforcement officials, survivor advocates, communities of faith, businesses and private citizens to raise awareness about human trafficking, the State Department said. "Since human trafficking disproportionately impacts racial and ethnic minorities, women and girls, LGBTQI+ individuals, vulnerable migrants, and other historically marginalized and underserved communities, our mission to combat human trafficking must always be connected to our broader efforts to advance equity and justice across our society," Biden said in his proclamation.

Stonehill commercial real estate group completed $200 million in loans - 0 views

    STONEHILL CRE, THE commercial real estate group of investment firm Stonehill, has originated and purchased $200 million in first mortgage loans since being launched in the second quarter of 2022. The companies expect to complete an additional $100 million in loan originations and other transactions by year's end, based upon deals in its pipeline, and Stonehill CRE is targeting over $500 million in transaction for 2023. Stonehill CRE, formed in May with Daniel Siegel as its president, is designed to work in all real estate sectors to navigate ongoing market volatility and enable real estate owners to execute their business plans, according to the company. Its work has made Stonehill the 10th largest U.S. hotel lender in 2021, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Atlanta-based Stonehill and Stonehill CRE are affiliates of Peachtree Group, led by Jatin Desai and Mitul Patel as managing principals. "Stonehill CRE's formation came at a fortuitous time as market conditions have created a dislocated lending environment for commercial real estate," said Siegel. "Traditional lenders have not only slowed commercial real estate lending but also tightened underwriting standards, which allows us to provide needed liquidity for maturing loans, new acquisitions and construction projects."
