Antibacterial drugs have been utilized by humans since the discovery of the first antibiotic penicillin in 1928 by Alexander Fleming and has evolved into a multi-billion dollar market. These drugs treat infectious diseases caused by gram positive, gram negative, aerobic and anaerobic bacteria that cannot be treated by any other method unlike other diseases, where substitute methodologies are available.
