Popular tradition, pagan culture and Christianity blend together to make magic
The "Pizzica", as well as being played in the festive moments of individual family groups or entire communities, was also the main accompaniment of ritual traditional dance, the tarantismo. Thereby, it was performed by orchestras composed of various instruments - among which stand out tambourine and violin for their rhythmic and melodic characteristics - in order to "exorcise" women tarantate and heal them from their evil, through the dance that this fast-paced music unleashed.
