There are two things you can explore in Luang Prabang:

Buddhist temples: I read an article about temples and found Luang Prabang is known as ancient Buddhist temples. So it made my interest and added to my targeted list to visit. The place is very beautiful surrounded by all magnificent temples, at first glance you find it very attractive as they are very colorful and artistic. During sunrise, you will see monks in red collecting alms.

Namkhan eco-farm : I have stayed in the Project for over 3 weeks between November and December 2017. And it was beyond amazing! The project strives to incorporate and invigorate the local community, which is a very noble cause to contribute to - it's not just another resort or purely touristic place. The owners are really sweet people who really try to do everything to make the volunteers feel welcome and free to take initiatives. There is a various range of jobs that we could contribute to - building, carpentry, gardening, teaching etc. So no matter what skills you bring with you or which skills you want to develop further there is plenty of opportunities to do so! I personally loved the fact that we worked not only with volunteers from all over the world but also with many local Lao people. We worked together, we ate together and we partied together afterwards so there is a real sense of community there between everyone.

I could see Laos with their eyes and get a glimpse of their culture and language. The work hours are relatively short and after work, we had a lot of fun all together playing guitars, laughing, swimming in the Nam Khan river, exploring the city and many more !!!

I'd say Luang Prabang is a more laidback and more beautiful alternative to Vientiane. Scalewise it's a smaller version of the difference between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Vientiane has about 10x as many inhabitants as LP. If you have an open choice I'd go nomading Luang Prabang. Some things to keep in mind however:

-Short lease apartments are unavailable, so sharing a big house with friends or renting a long term guesthouse room is necessary
-Bowling alley is the only nightlife option after 23:30
-During May the slash 'n burn farmers create a permanent fog above the city, it's not possible to see the sun for most of the month.
-Prices are rising fast and are higher than Vientiane
