RED ROOF UNVEILED its 700th property, the 86-room Red Roof PLUS+ Jamaica in Jamaica, New York. The new-build hotel, owned by Steven Mendel of RiverBrook Hospitality, follows a $20 million investment. The Jamaica property, featuring a business center and fitness facility, opened alongside the new HomeTowne Studios by Red Roof Tampa - Airport in Tampa, Florida, developed by Dhruv Development, headed by CEO Amit Patel and operated by Dhruv Management, led by President and CEO Vijay Patel. It is the first property to employ the new HomeTowne Studios prototype that was introduced in 2021. "This is a critically important time for our brand as we evolve to meet changing needs and expectations of our franchisees and guests," said Zack Gharib, Red Roof's president. "There is continued demand for Red Roof, and [this opening] demonstrates our commitment to elevate the brand and create a consistent experience and great value for our guests, our franchisees and our communities."

ON JUNE 6, MIT Shah, founder and CEO of Noble Investment Group, will be recognized by UJA Federation of New York for his professional and philanthropic achievements. Also, Jenifer Eager has joined Noble as vice president of fund and corporate accounting. INDUS HOSPITALITY GROUP in Rochester, New York, has opened a new Microtel Hotel by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts in Warsaw, New York. The company, led by Jett Mehta, also broke ground on another Microtel in Farmington, New York. The 67-room hotel in Warsaw opened July 21 near Letchworth State Park. It features a meeting room, a fitness center and outside firepit. Rooms are singles, doubles and suites. Mehta and Tammy Murphy, Indus vice president, broke ground on the 60-room Farmington Microtel on July 24. Nearby attractions will include New York state's Finger Lakes region. Amenities will include meeting rooms, a fitness center and business center. "We look forward to welcoming travelers to the area's newest hotel, scheduled to open in June 2021," Murphy said.

EXCEL GROUP, A Virginia-based private equity firm, acquired the 209-room Embassy Suites by Hilton Syracuse Destiny USA in Syracuse, New York. The hotel, one of the newest in the greater Syracuse market, is located near Destiny USA shopping and entertainment complex, Excel Group said in a statement. Excel Group is led by Shoham Amin as founder and principal. "We are thrilled to acquire the Embassy Suites by Hilton Syracuse Destiny USA, the premier hotel in the market," said Amin. "This property is strategically positioned to benefit from Syracuse's ongoing resurgence. This investment allows us to capitalize on the recent supply and demand imbalance caused by hotel closures in the area. Historically, this market has been stable, driven by healthcare and education sectors, and is now poised for significant growth with Micron's upcoming construction."

WYNDHAM REWARDS RECENTLY announced the three finalists for the mural project at Gillespie Golf Course in Greensboro, North Carolina. The selected artists are Vincent Ballentine from Brooklyn, New York; Raman Bhardwaj from Greensboro, North Carolina; and Abel Jackson from Charlotte, North Carolina. A committee of key community figures and organizations chose these finalists from over 50 nationwide applicants, Wyndham said in a statement. The project aims to honor the Greensboro Six, a group of Black men who, in 1955, played golf at the whites-only Gillespie course, the statement said. Their act of defiance against segregation occurred just a week after Rosa Parks' arrest for refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus. The Greensboro Six were arrested, convicted of trespassing, and spent 15 days in jail. Their actions and subsequent court cases eventually led to the desegregation of Gillespie Golf Course. In 1961, the Greater Greensboro Open (now the Wyndham Championship) became the first PGA Tour event in the South to welcome a Black player, Charlie Sifford.
