It was re-branded as Air Sahara in 2000, though Sahara Airlines remained as the registered name of the carrier. Four years later, its operation went international with the launching of the first flight to Colombo from Chennai. Jetlite was formed when Jet Airways bought Sahara Airlines in 2007 for over INR 14 billion. It initially operated as a separate carrier but in March 2012, was incorporated into the low-cost brand of the Naresh Goyal-owned Indian civil aviation major.
