Sonesta Essential Des Moines is now open in Des Moines, Iowa. The 150-room, upper-midscale property is owned by Bhavik Shah. The hotel is close to the Iowa State Capitol, Des Moines International Airport, Drake University and Iowa State Fairgrounds, Sonesta said in a statement. "The opening of Sonesta Essential Des Moines continues the momentum of our newest brand," said Keith Pierce, Sonesta's executive vice president and president of franchise and development. "At Sonesta, relationships are at the core of our growth strategy as we expand our footprint and grow the Sonesta Essential brand through both new and repeat owners." Sonesta Essential incorporates upgraded bedding as a core element of its distinct sleep program, the statement added.

Best Western Ottumwa Inn & Suites recently opened in Ottumwa, Iowa, and SureStay by Best Western San Francisco opened in San Francisco, California. Owned by Anil Chaudhari, Best Western Ottumwa Inn & Suites offers 41 guest rooms and 20 suites, while SureStay by Best Western San Francisco, owned by Dave Panas, features 37 guest rooms. Best Western Ottumwa Inn & Suites is near attractions such as Bridge View Center, Garrison Rock Resource Management Unit, Graham's Dairy Freeze and Iowa Heartland History Center. Amenities include an indoor pool and a fitness center. "We are excited to introduce the Best Western hospitality experience to Ottumwa," said Chaudhari. "Our focus was on delivering a comfortable, modern stay with value and convenience in mind. Whether guests are in town for leisure, business, or simply passing through, our property ensures attentive service and essential amenities for a memorable stay."

Peachtree Group's hospitality management division was recently selected to manage the Merrill Hotel, Muscatine in Iowa. The hotel has 122 guest rooms, 13,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a heated indoor saltwater pool, and a fitness center, Peachtree said in a statement. "We're truly delighted to have been chosen by Jim and Rebecca Howe to be the hotel's management operator," said Patrick Short, Peachtree's president for hospitality management. "The Howe family embodies a steadfast dedication to unparalleled hospitality experiences. We will carry on their commitment to excellence by delivering exceptional guest experiences, enhancing and elevating the hotel's reputation while generating results commensurate with this exceptional hotel's status, which continues to serve as one of the city's economic foundations." The hotel was opened in March 2018 along the Mississippi River in downtown Muscatine and is located near cities like Davenport and Bettendorf in Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline/East Moline in Illinois, the statement said.

VIRAL "VICTOR" PATEL and Mahmood "Mike" Merchant are new members of Best Western Hotels & Resorts board of directors. Patel will represent several Midwest states and Ontario, Canada, and Merchant will represent California, Nevada and Hawaii. Patel has been a member of Best Western for more than 20 years, according to the company. He has served as a governor and as the chair of the Best Western Kentucky marketing co-op, liaising between the brand and hoteliers. He is currently the owner and operator of the Best Western Corbin Inn in Corbin, Kentucky, and will represent that state as well as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. "I've witnessed tremendous growth within our brand over the years and am excited to join my fellow Board members as we move forward under Larry's leadership," said Patel. "Service is extremely important to me, and I feel grateful to have served my colleagues and community in a variety of roles over the years. DALLAS-BASED NEWCRESTIMAGE recently acquired of 45 hotels with around 3,300 rooms in 11 states in the U.S., a statement said. The properties include 35 Marriott, seven Hilton, and three Choice-branded hotels in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Texas, according to the company. NewcrestImage retained the management companies Aimbridge Hospitality and HHM Hospitality to operate the properties. It announced the deal in September. "Each of these hotels represents a strong opportunity for generating revenue in the short-term, as well as for building long-term asset value," said Mehul Patel, NewcrestImage's managing partner and CEO.
