HENRY COUNTY, GEORGIA, Police Officer Paramhans Desai gave his life in the line of duty. In his case, he continued giving even after his death. Desai was an organ donor, but his legacy will go beyond even that act of generosity, thanks to Samaj Saves Lives, a volunteer group dedicated to promoting organ donation nationwide. Jayantilal "Jerry" Patel, a Samaj Saves Lives Ambassador and Mississippi-based hotelier, spoke at the officer's funeral along with the deceased's sister Divya Desai. "I offered Divya, since he was an organ donor, that I would put up the billboards in the Atlanta metro area, to help the cause," Jerry said. "The GoFundMe page [set up for the family,] I think it's closed today at $345,000. That's a lot of money." The GoFundMe campaign has closed, and the money will go to Desai's family. The billboards, which Patel arranged as donation from Nick Brown with Lamar Outdoor Advertising of Atlanta, are in Rome and Cartersville, Georgia, and refer viewers to the Donate Life America website.

PINAL PATEL WAS elected secretary of AAHOA in the culmination of 2024 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show held this week in Orlando. New members of the association's board of directors also were elected and new industry partners were announced. Pinal, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, defeated H.K. "Hare Krishna" Patel for the secretary position. He was born in Bardoli, India, and his family moved to the U.S. in 1984 when he was 2, according to AAHOA. They lived in Nashville, Tennessee, Pinal said his parents did not speak any English when they brought him and his 1-year-old brother to America. Pinal's parents bought their first independent hotel in 1991, and he is a second-generation hotelier even after graduating flight school at Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida, before buying his first franchise property. Previously, he has served as an AAHOA ambassador and as AAHOA's director at large Eastern Division. "Hard work definitely pays off," Patel said. "I'm going to make sure we do what's right for the association and for the members. I promise to all my supporters, my family, and my fellow members that I will not let you down. I will do what's best for the association's interests."

AAHOA'S FINAL CHARITY Golf Tournament of 2024 took place on Nov. 6 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event, held in the North and South Florida Regions, raised approximately $76,000 for the AAHOA Charitable Foundation and drew nearly 100 players and 12 sponsors. This year, the association hosted three tournaments that raised $241,000 from vendor partners, members and sponsors for various charities, AAHOA said in a statement. "As hoteliers, contributing to our communities remains central to our mission," said Miraj Patel, AAHOA's chairman. "Seeing our members and industry partners join forces here in Daytona Beach to support impactful causes was uplifting. I am grateful to North Florida Regional Director Jayesh 'Jay' Patel and South Florida Regional Director Chetan 'Chris' Patel, as well as the ambassadors whose hard work brought this event to life and ensured its success."

EMPLOYEES AT THE Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi presented a rendition of the Indian national anthem in Indian Sign Language to celebrate India's 78th Independence Day on Aug. 15. The hotel shared the video on its social media accounts, extending Independence Day wishes to all Indians. AAHOA'S NORTH TEXAS Region hosted its second Charity Golf Tournament of 2024, raising around $60,000 for five charities. The association's final Charity Golf Tournament of 2024 will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Nov. 6. The beneficiaries of the most recent tournament include the AAHOA Charitable Foundation, Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking, SLPS Aastha Charities, Nanu Foundation, and Nora's Home. The event, held on October 14 at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas, drew more than 100 players and 15 sponsors, according to AAHOA. "As hoteliers, giving back to our communities is a top priority," said Miraj Patel, AAHOA's chairman. "It was inspiring to see our members and industry partners in Dallas come together for causes that will have a lasting impact. I am grateful to North Texas regional director Dhiren Masters and the North Texas ambassadors who worked tirelessly to make this event successful."

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a target to double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030 during their recent White House meeting. Modi was the fourth world leader to visit Trump after his second term began on Jan. 20. The countries agreed to cooperate on defense, trade, investment, energy security, technology, multilateral ties and people-to-people exchange, according to a U.S.-India joint statement.
