Occupancy was 62 percent for the week ending April 16, down from 66.4 percent the week before and down 5.6 percent from 2019. ADR was $147.25 for the week, down from $150.45 the week before and up 14.4 percent from 2019. RevPAR reached $91.25 during the week, down from $99.93 the week before and up 8 percent from three years ago. Among STR's top 25 markets, Tampa saw the highest occupancy increase over 2019, up 3.2 percent to 76.6 percent. Phoenix posted the largest ADR increase in the week, up 33.8 percent to $189.16, over 2019.

HOTEL INVESTMENT GROUP has purchased the property in San Marcos, California, on which they will build a Home2 Suites by Hilton. The San Diego-based company is led by Darshan Patel as CEO. Construction on the 110-room Home2 Suites is slated to begin in summer 2022 at the 1.66-acre property and is estimated to be complete by late 2023. It will be pet-friendly with a pool, fitness center and ?? square feet of meeting rooms. "The hospitality industry is finally starting to rebound from the challenges of the last two years, putting us in a prime position to continue expanding HIG's portfolio," Patel said. "Bringing a Home2 Suites to San Marcos will provide a much-needed extended-stay hotel option for the medical community at Palomar Hospital and for customers visiting the area's premier golf courses and nearby LEGOLAND California."

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE moved closer to pre-pandemic levels during the third week of November according to STR. It dipped, however, from the week before. Occupancy was 59.7 percent for the week ending Nov. 20, down from 61.6 percent for the week before and a slight decrease of 2.1 percent from the same period two years ago. ADR for the third week of the month was $126.66, down from $129.98 the week before and increased 1.7 percent when compared to two years ago. RevPAR decreased to $75.60 for the third week of the month from $80.02 the week before, and a slight drop of 0.4 percent for the same period in 2019. Among STR's top 25 markets, Phoenix saw the largest occupancy increase during the week under review, up 6.4 percent to 76.6 percent over 2019. Miami reported the largest ADR increase when compared to 2019, 25.5 percent to $207.72. Oahu Island, Hawaii, experienced the steepest occupancy decline from 2019, down 35.2 percent to 51.8 percent.

The GLō Tulsa East Route 66 is now open in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the first of Best Western Hotels & Resorts' new-build boutique brand to open in the state. It is owned by Champion Hotels Group, led by founder Champak "Champ" Patel, and Jain Hotels led by CEO Jayesh Jain. The 70-room hotel is near the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and Tulsa International Airport. Other nearby attractions include the Tulsa Zoo, Oklahoma Aquarium, ONEOK Field, BOK Center, The Gathering Place, LaFortune Park, Rogers Point park and the Catoosa Activity Center. Hotel amenities include a meeting area and workspaces as well as a fitness center. "This hotel is the perfect addition to the Catoosa and Tulsa area," Patel said. "We are thrilled to introduce the GLō brand to Oklahoma," Jain said. "This property provides the ideal boutique look and feel with the modern amenities and service offerings today's travelers expect."

BUSINESS CONTINUED TO improve in the second week of April for U.S. hotels, according to STR. Occupancy, ADR and RevPAR all rose on a weekly basis, and the last two were up compared to the same time in 2019. Occupancy was 66.4 percent for the week ending April 9, up from 64.1 percent the week before but down 4.7 percent from 2019. ADR was $150.45 for the week, up from $145.74 the previous week and up 10.6 percent from 2019. RevPAR reached $99.93, a rise from $93.48 weekly and up 5.4 percent from three years ago. Among STR's top 25 markets, Tampa saw the highest occupancy increase over 2019, up 6.2 percent to 84 percent. Minneapolis had the largest occupancy decrease from three years ago, down 29.5 percent to 51.4 percent.

Red Roof PLUS+ Galveston Beachfront is now open in Galveston, Texas. The beachside hotel, a former Travelodge by Wyndham, recently underwent a $1.1 million renovation. Wayside Investment Group, led by President Miraj Patel, owns the 66-room hotel. Nearby attractions include Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, The Spot restaurant, Galveston Beach, Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston and Moody Gardens. Amenities include a swimming pool. The COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on the hotel's opening as Galveston Island temporarily shut down.

U.S. hotel performance improved in the fourth week of April from the week before, according to STR. The top 25 markets saw improvement as well. Occupancy was 65.8 percent for the week ending April 23, up from 62 percent the week before and down 4.2 percent from 2019. ADR was $148.35 for the week, increased from $147.25 the week before and up 15.4 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $97.66 during the week, up from $91.25 the week before and rose 10.5 percent from 2019. Among STR's top 25 markets, Tampa saw the highest occupancy, up 3.4 percent to 78.1 percent and ADR, increased 38.5 percent to $203.40, over 2019. Minneapolis experienced the largest occupancy decrease, dipped 21.1 percent to 53.8 percent, from 2019.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE during the second week of September increased from the previous week, according to CoStar. Yearly comparisons also were mostly up. Occupancy was 67.7 percent for the week ending Sept. 16, up from 60.3 percent the week before but down 2.2 percent from the same time last year. ADR was $161.15 for the week, up from $150.66 the previous week and up 2.3 percent from the previous year. RevPAR for the week was $109.07, up from $90.86 weekly and up 0.1 percent from 2022. Among the top 25 markets, Oahu Island, Hawaii, saw the largest year-over-year occupancy increase, up 7.4 percent to 83.6 percent. San Francisco saw the highest jumps in ADR, up 39.7 percent to $345.78, and RevPAR, which rose 33.9 percent to $271.19, due in part to attendance of Dreamforce 2023.

U.S. HOTELS REPORTED higher performance in October compared to September, according to STR. However, performance during the month weakened when compared to 2019. Occupancy of U.S. hotels were 67.2 percent for October, increased from 66.7 percent from the month before and decreased 2.4 percent from 2019. ADR was $155.63 for the month, up from $154.32 in September and up 16.8 percent from three years ago. RevPAR was $104.59 for the month, improved from $103 the month before and up 14 percent over 2019. STR's top 25 markets showed higher occupancy and ADR than all other markets in October mainly due to continued improvement in business travel and groups.

Occupancy was 56.3 percent for the week ending Jan. 28, up from 54.2 percent the week before and decreased 0.3 percent from 2019. ADR was $142.66 during the week, up from $140.16 the week before and up 13.4 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $80.32 in the fourth week, increased from $75.97 the week before and up 13 percent from January 2019. Among STR's top 25 markets, Dallas reported the highest occupancy increase, up 10.3 percent to 69.8 percent, over 2019.

The Best Western Gallup West is now open in Gallup, New Mexico. It is owned by Murad Mohsin. The 60-room hotel is near Veteran Memorial Pillars, Red Rock State Park, the Gallup Flea Market Fire Rock Navajo Casino and the Navajo Nation Museum. It is two hours from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center, spa and free parking. "We are very excited to join Best Western and to have access to the brand's best-in-class support and resources that will strengthen our property and guest service," said Murad Mohsin, owner of the Best Western Gallup West. "Our hotel offers something for everyone and is near some of Gallup's most interesting sights. INTERNATIONAL INBOUND TRAVEL is expected to slow down in the fall after surging over the summer, according to the latest U.S. Travel Association forecast. USTA also expects it may take until 2025 for the travel segment to recover to pre-pandemic levels. Inbound travel recovery picked up in summer and reached a pre-pandemic high of 35 percent below 2019 levels in July 2022, said U.S. Travel Association. It improved from a 41 percent decrease in May and declines of more than 50 percent earlier in 2022. The latest report by Aaron Szyf, economist, USTA, said that inbound travel recovery continued from Europe and Latin America in the past few months, which was 22 percent below 2019 levels in July. Meanwhile, Asian markets declined 66 percent in July, largely due to stagnation from China and a very slow return from Japan.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE dropped in the fifth week of September as expected with the Rosh Hashanah holiday, according to STR. ADR and RevPAR were up during the week when compared to 2019, but occupancy was down. Occupancy was 66.4 percent for the week ending Oct. 1, down from 70 percent the week before and decreased 2.4 percent from 2019. ADR was $149.71 for the week, dropped from $157.99 the week before and increased 15.7 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $99.36 during the week, down from $110.60 the week before and up 12.9 percent from 2019. According to STR, there was demand shifts in the southeast region due to Hurricane Ian besides the Rosh Hashanah impact on business travel and groups.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE improved in the first week of October due to school breaks and extended holiday weekend, but the performance was mixed when compared to 2019, according to STR. Hotel performance during weekdays declined due to Yom Kippur as expected. Post-Hurricane Ian demand in Florida also boosted the performance. Occupancy was 68.2 percent for the week ending Oct. 8, up from 66.4 percent the week before and decreased 3.5 percent from 2019. ADR was $153.79 during the week, increased from $149.71 the week before and up 16.9 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $104.83 in the first week of October, up from $99.36 the week before and increased 12.8 percent from 2019. Orlando reported the highest occupancy increase among STR's top 25 markets, up 1.9 percent to 73.6 percent, over 2019.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE showed mixed results from the previous week, according to STR's latest data through the end of April. However, it remained up year over year. According to STR, occupancy stood at 66.6 percent for the week ending April 29, down from 67.2 percent the week before and increased 0.1 percent over the comparable week in 2022. ADR came in at $156.14, up from $155.76 the week before, and rose 5.5 percent from 2022. RevPAR was $104.01 in the last week, down from $104.64 the week before and increased 5.6 percent against the same period in 2022. Among the Top 25 Markets, Boston registered the highest year-over-year increase in occupancy in the fourth week of the month, up 15.3 percent to 75.6 per cent. Meanwhile, New York City (87.8 percent), Las Vegas (81.5 percent), and San Francisco (81.1 percent) were the only three markets to post occupancy above 80 percent.
