THERE WAS A slight slip in U.S. hotel performance in the third week of October compared to the week before, according to STR. However, numbers improved during the week when compared to 2019. Occupancy was 69.9 percent for the week ending Oct. 22, down from 70.3 percent the week before and down 0.5 percent from 2019. ADR was $157.43 during the week, slightly dropped from $157.52 the week before and up 16.7 percent from three years ago. RevPAR reached $110.11 in the third week of Oct. 22, just dipped from $110.78 the week before and up 16.1 percent from 2019. Among STR's top 25 markets, Tampa reported the largest increase in occupancy during the week, up 7.4 percent to 75.9 percent and RevPAR, increased 39.2 percent to $117.28, over 2019. It has been one of the markets in Florida that have seen a performance lift associated with post-Hurricane Ian demand.

THE U.S. HOTEL construction pipeline grew 9 percent by both projects and rooms year-over-year, according to the latest U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics. It stood at 5,545 projects with 658,207 rooms at the close of the first quarter of 2023. Meanwhile, the hotel construction pipeline in the top 25 markets in the U.S. also registered year-over-year growth in the first quarter. Dallas had a record 184 projects with 21,810 rooms at the close of the first quarter, followed by Atlanta with 144 projects containing 18,242 rooms, Los Angeles tally stood at 118 projects with 19,066 rooms, Phoenix with 117 projects with 16,100 rooms and Nashville had 115 projects containing 15, 354 rooms, LE report revealed. In another report, LE analysts also detailed the leading franchise companies and their brands in the construction pipeline at the close of the first quarter. Marriott International tops the charts with 1,499 projects containing 181,377 rooms, followed closely by Hilton Worldwide, with a record-high count of 1,436 projects with 161,359 rooms, and then InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with 809 projects containing 80,679 rooms. Combined, these three franchise companies comprise 68 percent of the projects in the total U.S. pipeline, LE said.

DALLAS TAKES THE lead in top five U.S. hotel construction markets in the third quarter of 2023, setting a record with 189 projects and 21,840 rooms, according to Lodging Econometrics. The top markets all saw growth in new openings as well. Atlanta follows closely with 140 projects and 17,775 Rooms, while Nashville comes next with 122 projects and 16,046 rooms. Phoenix recorded 119 projects, totaling 16,455 rooms, while the Inland Empire reported 117 projects comprising 11,784 rooms, according to the third quarter United States Construction Pipeline Trend Report by LE. New York City leads with the highest number of projects under construction, totaling 46, and 8,386 rooms at the close of the third quarter, LE said. Phoenix follows with 26 projects and 5,353 rooms, followed closely by Atlanta with 26 projects and 4,354 rooms. Dallas trails with 25 projects and 3,178 rooms, and the Inland Empire with 23 projects and 2,386 rooms.

U.S. HOTEL PERFORMANCE dropped in the first week of July compared to the previous week due to Independence Day on July 4, according to CoStar. Key metrics, including occupancy, ADR, and RevPAR, saw declines over the prior week. Occupancy was 61.3 percent for the week ending July 6, down from 71.9 percent the previous week, showing a 0.9 percent year-over-year decrease. ADR dropped to $157.27 from $162.81, marking a 0.5 percent increase compared to last year. RevPAR fell to $96.35 from $117.13 the previous week, reflecting a 0.4 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, New Orleans saw the highest year-over-year increases in each of the three key performance metrics: occupancy rose 15.5 percent to 56.6 percent, ADR increased 35.1 percent to $197.23 and RevPAR grew 56.1 percent to $111.72.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY'S EVENT volume doubled to 94.9 percent year-over-year in July, according to Knowland. It is Louisville's fifth month in the top five secondary markets this year. Philadelphia led the top 25 markets with 27.7 percent growth, driven by a National Education Association event and several state-level education associations, according to Knowland. Louisville has become a key meetings hub in secondary markets, with an average of 4,935 square feet used and 119 attendees, while Philadelphia averaged 3,066 square feet and 117 attendees, the report said. Secondary markets grew by an average of 6.9 percent, compared to 3.6 percent for the top 25 markets.

Key metrics showed a slight decrease in occupancy, while RevPAR and ADR increased week-over-week. Occupancy declined slightly to 70.1 percent for the week ending Oct. 19, down from 70.3 percent the previous week, though it rose 1.6 percent year-over-year. ADR increased to $169.85 from $166.88, a 2.5 percent year-over-year gain. RevPAR rose to $119.01 from $117.28 the previous week, up 4.2 percent from the same period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, Tampa saw the largest occupancy increase, up 23.6 percent to 83.7 percent, driven by continued displacement demand from Hurricane Milton. Miami recorded the highest increases in ADR, up 29.9 percent to $245.28, and in RevPAR, up 35.5 percent to $179.72. The market's performance was driven by Taylor Swift's Eras Tour and Adobe MAX 2024.

Occupancy, RevPAR and ADR all increased over the prior week. Occupancy increased to 71.9 percent for the week ending June 29, up from 69.5 percent the previous week, showing a 3.2 percent year-over-year increase. ADR rose to $162.81 from $159.88, marking a 3.6 percent increase compared to last year. RevPAR climbed to $117.13 from $111.17 the previous week, reflecting a 6.9 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Among the top 25 markets, Minneapolis recorded the highest year-over-year increases: occupancy rose by 20.1 percent to 74.8 percent, ADR increased by 15.7 percent to $150.42 and RevPAR grew by 39 percent to $112.46. The market's performance was boosted by events such as the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials and the Twin Cities Pride Parade.
