EBSCOhost: Applying Technology to Visually Support Language and Communication in Indiv... - 1 views

  •
This is an article that talks about the usage of AAC devices with students with Autism.  2 out of 6 of my students are non-verbal, and this article touches upon the role of technology as an AAc device.  The use of iPads in schools are becoming more important and essential in the education of students with Autism.
  •
Great resource, I used it all the time when I taught Austism. I love the information on iPads that it provided about technology.

Speech Technology - 0 views

After reading this article ithit me, if the dragon program lets a 12 year focus on their thougths when they write school papers, why can it not help police officer written better thoughtful detailed reports. Or why can it help make podcast of cases to better prepare for court with.
  •
I had to laugh when I read your comment because I've never really thought about that, we all assume the AT programs like this one are for students who need extra assistance but your right, why can't it be used to better the writings of everyday people. This would be a great connection for students to the real-world if we could show them how police officers or lawyers are using the exact same software.

Police One is one of the largest online resources of police matter. Students can search topics from technology to women in law enforcement. Students can listen to podcast and blog with police officer from around the U.S. I think this is a great resource for law enforcement students. It can be a little hard to navigate within the site.

Google Maps - 0 views

  •
Within Law Enforcement having a great understanding of the area you work in or have to work in is key. Google maps does just that for students. The site is easy to use and give a students satellite view that shows them every thing for trails to local business in a given area. The maps even give them up-to-date traffic information and photos of some local area.
  •
Students can also create their own maps. I used it once to ask my students to create a map of the countries and areas they have visited before, and write a short intro about the country/ area in Chinese, share the final map with their class. It was fun! I saw many other teachers use it for a lot of creative learning projects.

This article contains 10 smaller articles on a variety of subjects from educator toolkits to students using hand-held devices. Unfortunately, if it is downloaded, you lose the ability to click on any one of the 10 and have just a brief overview of each.

This is a great site for answering your kid's questions.  There is a variety of information available... everything from how a computer works to which countries owe the most.  This is a Discovery Channel sponsored site, and the information is up to date and accurate.  You can use this as a starter for research or just as a class opener when studying a specific subject.

I don't think I will be able to use this site for my specific subject area, however I think it is great website to educate myself on many topics in today's fast transforming world.

TarHeelReader - 1 views

  •
A great resource that allows teachers or students to search already made, adapted books. This is a great way to simplify curriculum material for varying levels. This site does not require a membership, and you are able to upload books you have created to add to the book collection.
  •
TarHeelReader is a great site for students to create their own picture books. Although they can draw from a wide variety of photos to illustrate, they are limited in the amount of text that they can incorporate. To get around this, students can convert their books to PowerPoint, where they are free to add as much text as they need.
