#2 Logan Spencer on 06 Sep 12An example of the Normalcy bias is the fact that in times of disaster such as a hurricane or a tsunami, many people refuse to leave their homes because they do not want to leave their stuff nor do they acknowledge what really is coming towards them. Because of this, they suffer the consequences of staying.

#3 Coburn Hopkins on 06 Sep 12The article talked about the misconception that when something bad happens, everyone will panic. Normalcy bias explains that when some people are told there is a disaster about to happen, they might just sit there because they feel everything is normal. There are tons of documented cases where people stay put even though they have prior warning. We think the reason people do this is because they cant imagine life if the disaster actually happened because they would probably loose all their possessions.

#4 Nicolas Vinsonhaler on 06 Sep 12I feel that after reading this passage we all have experienced Normalcy bias a couple times in our life. I feel that it is a immediate coping mechanism for people who fear death. This is probably the most dangerous coping mechanisms due to the fact that it messes with your fight or flight response. Instead of fighting or running away in a dangerous situation. This may be the new evolution of a trait that will eventually be weened out due to the fact that the people who contain this trait will eventually be killed off.
