GPA Director Lindsay Whitley said many parents want to support their children’s learning at home, but often they don’t have the resources they need to do so. To fill this need, the district is paying to make a live online tutoring service from Brainfuse available to parents at no cost.

The tutoring, which is available for a wide range of subject areas, occurs through a live online chat session with a subject matter expert, and the platform includes a virtual whiteboard tool in which the tutor and student can work out a problem together. “The tutors don’t give students the answers; they help students work through problems on their own,” Whitley said.

Who determines the truth and gets to tell the story of us in the history books? Jenn Borgioli Binis (@JennBinis), @edhistory101 host, led a conversation at Educon which looked at the answer to this question. She specifically looked at the history of education. She challenged attendees to think about stories told from the perspectives of those who haven’t traditionally told them and had schools named after them.

It's hard to pinpoint a few priorities as an educator, because there are endless goals every teacher has for every class and even every student. If I had to name a few main priorities I have, I would say: inspiring a strong work ethic and independence in students; ensuring that students master essential skills and become very knowledgeable about the content of study; helping students to recognize their talents and power to make positive change; and encouraging a passion for learning and social justice.
