A strong vocabulary is an important part of reading comprehension. According to Drs. Isabel Beck and Margaret McKeown ( Bringing Words to Life: Robust Vocabulary Instruction), children should add about 2,000-3,500 words annually to their reading vocabulary. But did you know that students learn 85 percent of those new words indirectly, as they interact with language and text?

Reading textbooks is very different from reading your favorite mystery novel. Naturally, the way you read a textbook will vary depending on how well you know the material already, and the Textbook Surveys you have performed should have started to show you how you can handle each of your books.

This book is almost 20 years old, but I bet the stories are still relevant to what kids experience today.

School related cartoons to make you laugh!

I use this as an opener to explain how stories were told in the days gone by and to expose my students to a successful role model of their kind.

Students will: 1. learn what probability is, 2. learn different ways to express probability numerically: as a ratio, a decimal, and a percentage, and 3. learn how to solve problems based on probability. The class will need the following: 1. Begin the lesson by asking students to define probability (the likelihood or chance that a given event will occur).

Use with class for remembering to skip count.

What a great way to help kids learn about how their bodies and brains work. I think this would not only be good for health class, but it might help behaviors in kiddos that struggle to use self control. If they understand whats going on they might be able to help settle their own body down with better choices.

There are so many terms in science that pertain to different topics. This lesson helps students to understand how these words can be juggled around in different contents. I used the term plasma with this lesson also.
