The world's oceans are facing a bleak future, say marine scientists, unless we rebuild its abundance, variety and vitality. (CNN) -- As the human footprint has spread, the remaining wildernesses on our planet have retreated. However, dive just a few meters below the ocean surface and you will enter a world where humans very rarely venture.

Chen Yuqian, a 60-year-old resident of Pailian village in Zhejiang province, was one of at least three concerned citizens who last week called on Chinese environmental officials to brave the rivers they were supposed to be keeping clean.

A company, with the help of funding from various sources, has made the cost of solar power cheaper than coal.

Researchers at Stanford University have created the first peel-and-stick solar cells. These cells are flexible, can be attached to a variety of surfaces (windows, business cards, clothing), and most importantly they can be produced using conventional, industry-standard facilities and materials. Furthermore, it should be possible to use Stanford's new process to create peel-and-stick computer chips and LCD displays.
