Here Shirky started talking about the importance of managing collaboration effectively. Large collaborative projects aren't, in fact, large collaborative projects according to Shirky. They're small collaborative projects with tight groups, that integrate very large amounts of small participatory effort. To put it another way, projects like Wikipedia and the Linux kernel may have thousands of contributors - but it's a small core of contributors who do the bulk of the work and integrate the work from others who only contribute a small amount. It's also important, says Shirky, that people cannot join the project too easily. Even given the presumption that all the participants have goodwill towards the project, he says that it shouldn't be too easy to change every aspect of a project. Some parts of the system should be easy to change, some parts should be hard.

During REM sleep, the respiratory pattern is irregular, with differences in the size of breaths and the spacing between them. Breathing during deep sleep follows an ordered pattern, "like a sine wave," says Bianchi. "And the breath-to-breath differences are very small." The lighter stages of non-REM sleep fall somewhere in between. "The motivation behind the shirt is to allow repeated measurements over time in the home," he adds. Users can log their habits, such as coffee or alcohol intake, exercise, or stress, and look for patterns in how those variables affect their quality of sleep.

It looks and sounds like Edward, mostly. But Castronova would have read the book and skipped the very safe and pat conclusion that this author heads straight for. He would have read the book to the end. Or at least spent 20 minutes watching TED. Maybe he's winning over his audience before leading them somewhere new.
