This is a very accurate description of Jay Gatsby.
“conspicuous consumption” which so accurately describes much of what was
occurring in The Great Gatsby was trying to convey that the people who
had not been raised with money and came into riches and wealth on their on
attempted to demand respect and esteem by showing it off through purchases.
Do you think this is true? Does Gatsby see Daisy as a trophy or prize to attain and show off? I think this is certainly possible.
