  Gated residential areas with security guards are common in many countries. But the way homeowners run their HOA, you would think they were mobsters. There are some risks but the benefits outweigh the dangers.

  Conflicts arise among people of different characters. Some do not work well in group situations. HOA tends to be nothing but money-fleecing for such individuals who are not so cooperative.

  I agree. Some areas end up having no street lights because some members do not pay their monthly dues.
