Here are the American Library Association's 10 most challenged books in 2006

The following books were among 5,718 challenges reported to the Office for Intellectual Freedom between 1990 and 1999.

Challenges to school materials are a common occurrence. How should such challenges be handled? How can they be avoided?

Teachers and educators should be familiar with the school's policies and procedures for dealing with book challenges and should be prepared to follow the procedures.

Following are some of the most frequently challenged books and the objections raised.
