This article, I found on www.lauracandler.com explains how one teacher with limited resources for chapter books, downloaded a Kindle app to all the computers she has available to her classroom and pays the Kindle price for a book and it can be pulled up on all those computers... at the same time. She even uses it as whole group hooked up to her projector.

This site offers a variety of books to use in science.  It also includes books for math and social studies.  I enjoy using trade books in my classroom for all grades.  My fourth graders love when I read picture story books to them in any subject.  This site is a great way to find books that will fit the needs of concepts you are teaching.

Always great to have resources for bringing more literacy & literature to the other core subjects!

This site has interactive lessons to promote oral language in kindergarteners. It has slide shows and activities with pauses for discussion with a partner. I have used it with some of my kindergarten students I have in my oral language group. The categories covered are: families, friends, transportation, food, animals, neighborhood, weather, plants, amazing creatures, and I Know a Lot! It also incorporates some classification and matching games in some of the lessons.

We know oral language development is critical for early literacy. However, it is important for teachers of all grades to remember the importance of talk in learning--even for adults! +2

Knight Cite is a website that creates citations for reference page of papers. You select the style and type and fill in the fields it asks for. After that all you have to do is copy the citation into your document.

Here is a very helpful link. It talks about all of the ways to teach reading in the elementary classrooms. It describes shared reading, readers theater, and guided reading just to name a few. I found it very helpful and a great resource,

This website has resources and strategies for teaching nonfiction to teens and adults. 'You Can Teach Writing' consists of blogs, writing topics, teacher services, student services, books, and events. If you teach older students this is great for some ideas :)

This blog is run by two Engilsh teachers and is a great resource for teachers because it focuses on what teachers want to know about a book: who will want to read it and how it could be used in a classroom. For example, the teachers talk about "A Wrinkle in Time" because of its 50th anniversary edition.

The is a website that I used often when teaching. I think this is a valuable website because it has a lot of information and resources on comprehension strategies that were helpful in the classroom. The site also has a great section on readers theater with tons of scripts to download.

Reading Comprehension Strategies Based on Strategies That Work by Stephanie Harvey and Reading With Meaning by Debbie Miller Book Report Forms. I love this site and have used it often in my teaching career. My favorite section of this site is the reading section. The reading section has resources on early, emergent and transitional readers, book reports, story maps, reading checklists, task cards and discussion cards and much more. This site is certainly worth checking out.

A neat website that has premade packets that are ready to go. Includes flash cards with specific letters, worksheets, picture cards, and different games. Alphabet resources are one part of a comprehensive reading tutor/mentor program targeting essential reading strategies.

The Café Book is written by The Two Sisters, Joan Moser and Gail Boushey. The book is written in conjunction with The Daily 5, also written by them. The Daily 5 is a management system for a readers workshop style literacy block. The Café Book is the content to go along. Café is centered around the Café Board. Each letter for Café represents a reading strategy, which are also the heading on the board. The four heading are comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanded vocabulary. The idea behind Café is that during the Daily 5 mini lessons the teacher teaches different strategies to go under each heading on the Café board. For example, one of the first Café lessons taught to the students is "Go Back and Reread." This strategy goes under the comprehension heading on the Café Board. This board gives students a reference for all of the different reading strategies that they learn throughout the year. Along with the mini-lessons and Café Board, The Café Book also focuses on strategy groups and reading conferencing. The Two Sisters suggests that rather than meeting with students of the same abilities, meeting with students that are focusing on the same reading strategy. Along with the strategy groups, the teachers meet with individuals during reading conferences. During this time the teacher can ensure that each student is reading just right books and practicing the reading strategy that they are focusing on. I run both The Daily 5 and Café currently in my classroom. I believe both are amazing. Although I have not tried it, I think that Café is most successful when The Daily 5 is also implemented. My students reference the Café board daily. They use the strategies to help them be more successful readers. This year was the first year that I have used The Daily 5 and Café. I have not fully implemented all aspects of Café. I am using the board, but have yet to use strategy groups. I am still grouping my students based on ability

What an interesting idea! I would love to create one for the math classes I teach. I always have parents asking what they can do at home for review. Having a central location for them to go to would be a great educational tool. Thanks for sharing.
