What is the human impact on deciduous forests? - Yahoo! Answers - 1 views

  • So I have to do a biome presentation on deciduous forests, and I need to know how humans have influenced the biome and how they have had an impact on it. Please share your thoughts on the matter. Thanks people. ♥
  • The Main way deciduous forests have been affected by humans is urbanisation, ie people moving into the countryside, building farms and other buildings, deforestation (chopping trees down), is a result of this as well as land is cleared for farmland. Building motorways through deciduous forests is also a big one. Logging is also an issue as large areas are destroyed.

Temperate Deciduous Forests - NatureWorks - 0 views

  • Temperate deciduous forests have a great variety of plant species. Most have three levels of plants. Lichen, moss, ferns, wildflowers and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs fill in the middle level and hardwood trees like maple, oak, birch, magnolia, sweet gum and beech make up the third level. Conifers like spruce, fir and pine trees can also be found mixed in with the hardwood trees in this biome. Sometimes the taiga and the temperate deciduous forest overlap.
  • There is great diversity of life in this biome. Insects, spiders, slugs, frogs, turtles and salamanders are common. Birds like broad-winged hawks, cardinals, snowy owls, and pileated woodpeckers are also found in this biome. Mammals include white-tailed deer, raccoons, opossums, porcupines and red foxes. Animals that live in the temperate deciduous forest must be able to adapt to the changing seasons. Some animals in this biome migrate or hibernate in the winter.

  • However, broad leaves are not good when the weather gets cold, as they lose too much moisture and get damaged.
  • his biome is located between the polar regions and the tropics, so large air masses from both cold and warm areas of the Earth affect the climate.
  • A wide variety of mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles can be found in the deciduous forest biome.
