How to silence notifications on smartphones and tablets | How To - CNET - 0 views

  • Block or customize notifications on an app-by-app basis on Android devices, such as the notification options for the Facebook app. (Credit: Screenshot by Dennis O'Reilly/CNET) In earlier versions of Android, deactivate an app's notifications by opening the program, going to its settings, and looking for notification options. For example, the Facebook app for Android lets you turn off all notifications, vibrate to indicate incoming alerts, flash LED, change the notification ringtone, and allow or block notifications for wall posts, messages, comments, friend requests and confirmations, photo tags, event invitations, nearby friends, app requests, and groups. Some ill-behaved apps generate spam notifications offering free Corvettes or Rihanna's phone number and aren't particularly easy to trace. The free Addons Detector identifies the apps on your device and tells you which ones are sending push notifications. On the Digital Trends blog, Simon Hill describes the free Lookout Ad Network Detector program that alerts you to the apps on your device that are using common ad networks. Quash notifications on Windows 8 Depending on who you ask, Windows 8's live tiles are the greatest thing since nacho cheese Doritos or a sure sign of the apocalypse. Wherever you may stand on the issue, deactivating a tile is as easy as right-clicking it and choosing "turn live tile

How to stop notification sounds from interrupting music? - Android Forums at AndroidCen... - 0 views

  • I am not entirely sure that can be changed. That may be in Android itself. I have the Paid Version of PowerAmp, and I can't find a setting to change that. You can Mute the phone and still listen to music. Notifications will still pop up, but won't be heard.

Google Groups Forum for Googel+: Contacts Malfunction - 0 views

  • I had the same problem with my contact information/profile and my husbands. We both have each other and ourselves listed in our contacts, and we both have each other in our google+ circles. Somehow both his G+ profile and mine got linked to his contact information in my account. I FINALLY just was able to fix it! I ended up trying a bunch of thing - so I'm not exactly sure what all is absolutely necessary - but here is what I did:1. In each of our accounts I went through our contacts - for each listing of my contact information I removed every email/profile that related to him, and then did the same for his contact listing. (this was not enough in itself)2. I exported our individual contact information to my computer.3. I deleted all contact information in both accounts completely.4. I removed each other from all circles (this seemed to be necessary - since the contact information still would come up in a contact search otherwise)5. After all traces of his contact information were deleted from my contacts (a search for his email came up with nothing) I imported the CSVs back in.This finally seemed to work! It even remembered some of the groups. I re-added him to the proper groups and circles, and everything was back to normal! Only think I had to fix in my phone itself was his custom ringtone.  Granted Google SHOULD have some way to just unlink profiles - but if it is driving you nuts like it was me - this seems to work. Good luck everyone!
  • FTC is investigating Google for antitrust activities related to their integration of Google+ into their products.   http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/14/new_ftc_antitrust_focus_google/I'm not a legal expert nor do I necessarily agree that the FTC should have the power to force Google's hand in this issue.  This is proof that we're not the only ones upset that Google is forcing its social network onto us.
  • I removed a shared email address in both contacts and that fixed the problem.

  • ****Removing a shared email address****This worked, THANK YOU!
  • was facing similar issue. But following method worked for me:1. Login into you Gmail account.2. Go to Contacts section. (You can use drop-down/list which by default shows value as "GMail". The location of drop-down is above "Inbox" in left-pane. Select "Conacts" from the drop-down.)3. Under Contacts section, select "Circles" followed by circle-name.4. This should display all the contacts.5. Click on the contact which are being shown as "Connected". It should show the page where you will see the details about the selected contact.6. In top-right side you should see "Connected Profiles". It will have list of email addresses. Next to email-addresses you will see circle-name, say 'circle1'.7. Click on circle-name e.g. on "circle1", it should show a list of circles. Next to circle-names, you will see check-boxes. Clear all the check-boxes such that none of them is checked.8. After step 7, you should see contacts as disconnected/unlinked.HTH,Chandan

Google+ syncs contacts from Google+ Circles in duplicates and are unerasable.  This is causing problems on mobiles phones and contacts duplicates.  There are good suggestions in this thread about fixing this.
