BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) or BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) is gaining popularity in many schools as a way of increasing access to vital technology without the costly burden of purchasing a device for each student.

Ushering classrooms into the 21st century is an expensive undertaking, but painful budget cuts have made purchasing tablet computers, iPod Touches, Kindles and other devices unfeasible, say district officials. So schools are asking students to "BYOD," or Bring Your Own Device.

Touch-screen tablets for young students have become all the rage. Some districts are even buying iPads for every kindergartner, a move sparking both celebration and consternation. Giving kids iPads sounds like installing candy machines on every desk, or worse, Xboxes.

With its responsive Multi‑Touch screen, the thin and light iPad is poised to change the learning landscape.

Since their release in April of 2010, Apple's iPads have taken the US by storm. iPads have swept through almost every industry, especially education. Apple is pushing for iPad use in education, and several schools across the US have taken up the charge. The proliferation of iPads in the classroom will only keep accelerating.
