PBS learning for social studies and language arts - 2 views

This website is easy to navigate and can be searched by grade level, subject, media type, and language. One of the strengths of the site is that it is created and maintained by PBS. Since this is a well-known and respected organization, it brings integrity to the site. I searched in the subjects of social studies and language arts for high school students. There is a variety of current videos and lesson plans related to relevant subject matter. Each video has supporting materials such as teaching tips, discussion questions, student handouts, and links to national learning standards. The breadth of topic is amazing. This would be an excellent website for teaching these subjects.

The Math Projects Journal - 2 views

One of the benefits of this website is that it appears to be updated on a frequent basis. The website has a number of features that we have discussed using in our TECH 507 class, including blogs by educators and professionals about the field of math. Another benefit is the extensive collection of free lessons, presentations, and articles to use in the classroom. There is even a monthly journal that teachers can subscribe to which includes new lessons and resources for a nominal fee. Math educators can learn about common core standards and various conferences and workshops around the country. The only disadvantage might be that there is too much information!

This is a great website for science simulations! There is everything from chemistry and earth science to physics and biology. Many of the simulations include links for learning goals, tips for teachers (from the PhET), and teaching ideas and lesson plans that have been submitted by teachers. The website has options for embedding the links into your own personal website or Wiki. Also, there are translated versions in tons of languages. The website is very colorful, easy to navigate, and user friendly.

    Hi everyone,
It looks like our assignment for Week 4 is as follows:

Write an annotated bibliography within a collaborative bookmarking tool that includes the following:

    * Exemplary Internet sites, Web 2.0 and 3.0 tools, multimedia, and software applications that foster student-centered learning in content area and assessment, particularly in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies
    * Highlights relevant passages within each resource
    * Annotates each resource with information about the resource, strengths and weaknesses of each resource, and strategies for integrating and evaluating each resource

After we do this, we each need to write a paper on our own. I personally don't teach any of those subject areas, but I will start looking for websites and software and post a bookmark to the websites that I find.
