I actually used this with my gr. 1/2 class, even! We used it after reading the math lit book "Equal Schmequal"... Check out Christine's lesson plan on our District Math Site: http://web.sd71.bc.ca/math/index.php?page=lessons-activities-grade-2

This looks fantastic! Good first day back kinda activity!! "Equal Schmequal" sounds like a great resource too!

Yes, Alissa the lesson plan that Michelle is referring to is fanatastic and kids of all ages seem to grasp this concept pretty quickly. In fact my 6 year old son intuitively got it before my 10 year old.

Super Alissa, I am going to use some of the multiplication games today - multiplication arrays and base ten blocks!
  •
I checked out this site and see some useful lessons for our grade 5/6 class. Thanks.

Alissa I used the multiplication arrays and it was fantastic for teaching that 9 x 8 could be partitioned into (9 x 4) + (9X4). The kids made connections to partitioning and part-part-whole.

Aviary also has Myna... probably the coolest audio editing tool around.  I love it.

Sometimes you just have to draw, and paint, and erase, and draw some more. This Blog post has links to 12 free online drawing tools and has nice short annotations.  Of these, I have only used Sumopaint and Aviary.  I am looking forward to trying some other ones. I have also had a ton of fun with sketchup on a smartboard.

Today as an extension to creating towers etc with blocks my grade ones and twos worked with google sketch up on both the SMARTboard and stand alone computers- pretty cool
