This is an interesting overview of the code pointing out the history behind it and listing some of the more interesting laws in it.

"Hammurabi, the king of righteousness, on whom Shamash has conferred the law, am I." "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth." This phrase, along with the idea of written laws, goes back to ancient Mesopotamian culture that prospered long before the Bible was written or the civilizations of the Greeks or Romans flowered.

Hammurabi's Code is 44 columns of text, 28 paragraphs of which contain the actual code. There are 282 laws (possibly more have been rubbed off) that probably amend common Babylonian law rather than define it. It describes regulations for legal procedure, fixes rates on services performed in most branches of commerce and describes property rights, personal injury, and penalties for false testimony and accusations.

This is an informative video that explains Hammurabi and his code, and explains the importance of the laws that he put in place, and his code's effect on life today.
  •
A short video connecting the laws that Hammurabi set forth to those that are in place today. Hammurabi is credited with establishing codified law, something that has been improved upon since that time.
  •
This video shows how the Hammurabi Code has affected the laws that we have today. It was very interesting to see how much it has helped our own laws.
