Chartres Cathedral - Chartres, France - 0 views

  •
Chartres Cathedral was rebuilt after a fire in 1194 by an unknown architect. The architect rebuilt the Cathedral into a cross that could be seen from Heaven making it the cutting edge of its day that Bishop Renoux wanted. The architect uses geometry of the square, circle and equilateral triangular which was common during the mid-evil times to design this magnificent cathedral.

This is a very thorough site about the Chartres Cathedral. The "Learn and Reconstruct" section has many interactive panoramas and pictures, and the "About the Project" link gives a lot of historical information about the cathedral.
