social media is actually harming people’s ability to interact competently in an offline setting. Studies on the social competency of youths who spend much of their time on social media networks are sometimes very conflicting. For example, a study executed by the National Institute of Health found that youths with strong, positive face-to-face relationships may be those most frequently using social media as an additional venue to interact with their peers.

Social Media's Affect on Human Interaction | HASTAC - 2 views

I agree with this article, technology and social media has an affect on society. Today people don't even look up when they are walking anymore. People walk into potholes and waterholes because they are so busy on their devices checking social media. Social media is fun, but there should be a limit. People don't know how to talk to people anymore, they can not hold a face to face conversation. another thing is kids writing skill are horrible. they can not write a sentence, their spelling and grammar needs improving.
Children who read on iPads or Kindles have weaker literacy skills, charity warns | Mail... - 1 views

Children who read on an iPad or Kindle are falling behind in the classroom as figures showed for the first time the majority of youngsters now prefer ebooks to printed versions. The advance of technology means that young people who read on a screen have weaker literacy skills and fewer children now enjoy reading, experts have said.A survey, conducted by The National Literacy Trust, found that 52 per cent of children preferred to read on an electronic device - including e-readers, computers and smartphones - while only 32 per cent said they would rather read a physical book.
-
We are concerned by our finding that children who only read on-screen are significantly less likely to enjoy reading and less likely to be strong readers. 'Good reading skills and reading for pleasure are closely linked to children's success at school and beyond. We need to encourage children to become avid readers, whatever format they choose

Nearly three quarters of the 685 public and private K-12 teachers surveyed in the Common Sense Media online poll believe that students use of entertainment media (including TV, video games, texting and social networking) "has hurt student's attention spans a lot or somewhat."
-
New York Times' Matt Richtel summarizes these concerns in an article about the studies: "There is a widespread belief among teachers that students' constant use of digital technology is hampering their attention spans and ability to persevere in the face of challenging tasks."
