ALIA Schools promotes the interests of school libraries and teacher librarians, provides opportunities for professional development, lobbies for school libraries with state and local groups, liaises with other groups, identifies and analyses current trends in teacher librarianship, and maintains the profile of teacher librarianship within ALIA.

Welcome to the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Standards for the 21st-Century Learner Lesson Plan Database, a tool to support school librarians and other educators in teaching the essential learning skills defined in the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century Learner. Users can search the database for lesson plans by learning standards and indicators, content topic, grade-level, resources used, type of lesson or schedule, keyword and much more. In addition, registered users can bookmark lesson plans in a portfolio for future use, rate and comment on lesson plans in the community, print to PDF and socially share lesson plans on the web, and create and publish their own lesson plans in the database. Submissions to the Lesson Plan Database are vetted by AASL reviewers to ensure lesson plans published are of the highest quality. The lesson plan template was developed using the Action Example Template from Standards for the 21st-Century Learner in Action. All lesson plans published are aligned with AASL's Standards for the 21st-Century Learner and are crosswalked with the Common Core Standards.

This publication and its wider project draw upon several years of ESCalate activity focusing upon the development of learning and teaching in relation to the use of technology. Practitioner-focused workshops, held over the past 3 years, have proved successful in the dissemination of innovative use of emergent technologies and pedagogies in education subjects. Increasingly the presenters and audiences for these events were drawn from wider subject and curriculum areas. This particular project builds upon 2 years of workshops and seeks to collect and disseminate innovative activity in Education subject areas.

Great flowchart/Infographic Flowchart: Which Books to Read this Summer? Teaching students at the University of California School of Education developed this great infographic to help younger students pick books to read over the summer, an important time when young people have the freedom to read what they want to read rather than required coursework. This chart appeared on the "Teach: Make a Difference" blog on June 5, 2012. A chart like this would be a fun and challenging project for a team of teams or a book club.

In their classic book " How to Read A Book: The Classic Guide to Intelligent Reading " Van and Adler provide some invaluable tips to help readers develop good intelligent reading habits. They particularly talked about four types of readings which I want to share with you here and also highly recommend that you read the entire book. It is definitely a wonderful work."

Each Kit is packed with articles, curriculum, learning games and assessment tools for strengthening information fluency. Applications include staff development, library orientation, diagnosing students' needs and curriculum integration for elementary grades through college. Kit resources are free.

"One of the most common questions math teachers hear from their students is, "why does this matter?" They are constantly trying to convince students that math is useful and could help them in their everyday lives. But it can be a tough sell. Word problems alone often feel contrived and students see right through them. Thomas Petra has taught math at every level for more than 20 years and encountered dubious students at every grade level. That's why he developed Real World Math, a free website with lessons based on Google Earth aimed at grades 5 - 10. "I was trying to show them actual applications of the math ideas that they see in the textbook," Petra said."
