The American Heart Association is the only certificate that is accepted in all hospitals and medical agencies with the American Red Cross close behind.   Both of these organizations provide local courses in most fields of healthcare. They differ in the courses they provide in that the Red Cross focuses on non-healthcare provider professions such as lifeguard or babysitter and teach courses with a curriculum geared towards these specific occupations. The American Heart Association, on the other hand, is geared towards certifying healthcare providers so the organization provides additional training in BLS and ACLS.
