Immunity to Change: Overview of the Process Map - YouTube - 2 views

  •
"As a person finally acknowledges that doing the same thing will not bring about a different desired outcome, a reflection emerges as "How do I get unstucked from where I am now?" Donna Howes shares her workshop experience on Dr. Robert Kegan's behavior improvement approach to "Immunity to Change". The good things ahead start with a rigorous adherence to the step-by-step process of recognizing where one is at the moment and where one desires to be in the future. The change process works at the individual as well as at the organizational level. "

Jennifer Gonzalez on the Aerodynamics of Exceptional Schools | SXSW EDU - YouTube - 3 views

  •
n her SXSW EDU keynote, Jennifer Gonzalez explores the Aerodynamics of Exceptional Schools. In any school, just as in air travel, different forces impact our progress: some of these forces push us forward and lift us up, while others pull us back and drag us down. The success of our schools depends largely on how well we manage these forces. By applying wisdom from change management theory, instructional coaching, the tech industry, and even the fitness world, we can learn how to fight weight and drag, increase lift and thrust, and make our schools truly exceptional.

Libraries of the Future: Tod Colegrove at TEDxReno - YouTube - 2 views

  •
How can the libraries of the present and future be influenced by those of the past? 'Ted Colegrove bases the concept of the libraries we need in the future on the libraries from our distant past. How does the Ancient Library of Alexandria and other ancient libraries relate to the libraries we need in the 21st century and beyond? They had huge stockpiles of written knowledge, but their greatest contribution was that they were places of learning with lessons facilitated by the great thinkers and teachers of the day. Great ideas like the Pythagorean theorum were developed, tested, debated, and taught in those spaces. ' (summary comment by HeatherParrish)

Students, Computers and Learning - Books - OECD iLibrary - 5 views

  •
Are there computers in the classroom? Does it matter? Students, Computers and Learning: Making the Connection examines how students' access to and use of information and communication technology (ICT) devices has evolved in recent years, and explores how education systems and schools are integrating ICT into students' learning experiences. Based on results from PISA 2012, the report discusses differences in access to and use of ICT - what are collectively known as the "digital divide" - that are related to students' socio-economic status, gender, geographic location, and the school a child attends. The report highlights the importance of bolstering students' ability to navigate through digital texts. It also examines the relationship among computer access in schools, computer use in classrooms, and performance in the PISA assessment. As the report makes clear, all students first need to be equipped with basic literacy and numeracy skills so that they can participate fully in the hyper-connected, digitised societies of the 21st century.

Leading Change in Schools for 21st Century Teaching and Learning - 14 views

  •
"Current education is calling on schools to transition into a new paradigm of learning. We can see this in the challenges given through current standards (e.g., Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and International Standards for Technology in Education), the demands of the work place, the complexity of the world, and lack of effectiveness of the "stand and deliver" method of teaching. 21st century teaching and learning is this new paradigm that is trying to create students that will be problem solvers and critical thinkers. Our society is changing at such a rapid pace; we, as educators, are preparing students for jobs that don't exist yet. This means we have to change how we teach and how we lead our schools."

Which of these educators holds the key for unlocking the learning potential inside every student?

I found this interesting in how many of the presenters shared Sir Ken Robinson's views on education. That as it began out of the Industrial Revolution, it's now time to adapt to the skills that our current students need. Dr Mitra's list of what students really need: Reading Comprehension skills and the ability to search and retrieve from the internet I found particularly relevant to my role as a teacher librarian.
