What they published really was happening. Isn't our job as a journalist to tell the truth? To expose the wrongs of the powerful? the journalists were just doing their jobs by publishing the information. the government is upset that the information was leaked because they knew it was wrong and that the people would have a fit. its our job as journalists to expose the unethical engagements of our governments. are we not better off knowing what our government is doing in our name?
I read this August column on whistleblowers vs. journalists, and the distinction struck me as interesting. Is there a legitimate difference between whistleblowers like Manning and Snowden and conventional journalists, or do we hurt journalism as a whole by turning against ourselves?
