This is horrifying. It seems crazy to me that school rivalries start in kindergarten, and that someone would be willing to murder two children in order to put their school on top. I think that we do see rivalry between schools in the USA, but I don't see a Tam kid planning the demise of someone from Redwood. Hopefully this is a one time incident.

I think that technically Adderall constitutes cheating, just as steroids do in sports. I think that people use it as a sort of short cut to good grades; it's true that the drug helps you concentrate for long periods of time, but if people started studying earlier, or simply faced the fact that sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything, then the drug would become less popular. I think that what CSU is justified, like Lisa Beach said, when she told people the process to obtain the drug takes a couple months, many people give up trying to get them from the doctor. While the process is justified, is it effective? It seems like many students are simply turning to the black market to get the drugs. I think the best way to deal with misuse is to include the effects of Adderall into the school curriculum like they began doing in Vanderbilt. If students knew that the drug could lead to serious depression (maybe even suicide), anxiety, and/or psychosis, then I think the number of user would seriously decline.

This relates to a movie we are watching in history called "Prom" which is about a school in the South also putting on their first integrated prom. The movie was made in 2008. When watching the movie I thought it was ridiculous that they were just taking the measures to have a single prom. This article opens my eyes even further to this issue.

This article was very well done. It was interesting (and horrible) to read about the after-effects of rape. Like Jordan said, it would have been interesting to hear quotes from Tina's peers, because you'd think that their reactions would have been to comfort their friend rather than "slut-shame" her. I also wish that the article talked a bit more about the cruelty of the raper. The article depicts the friends and peers as the bad guys, while they were being cruel and are definitely in the wrong, the raper is just as much in the wrong

Guns in Class for Teachers - 71 views

I understand that this is in response to the Connecticut shootings, and it is supposed to provide some means of protection. However, if my teacher had a gun in the classroom, I would not feel safer, I would feel uncomfortable. In addition, it takes a lot for someone to shoot a gun, if an intruder was on campus, the teacher might not use. It is possible, however, for the teacher to use it as a threat to students. Even if they did not use it or show it to the students, just knowing they were armed would make me frightened of the teacher. I think there are other ways to provide more campus security. Schools can hire more campus supervisors who are trained, rather than just giving teachers guns.
