This was an article that was published on the Huffington Post in response to the one that we read in class about Gen Y and their inflated ego, and why that leads to unhappiness. Full disclosure, it's a very angry piece with more than a few curses in it.

What do you guys think of this article? Is it a fair response from a person from Gen Y? Or is he simply perpetuating the point made in the original article?

To me, it seems like this guy missed the main point of the original article, and used this platform as a way to express his general frustrations about the state of the economy. "And writing daily brilliance, which many of them do, is hard goddamned work," he writes. I have a feeling this "daily brilliance" has a particular author and that that particular author feels like his "hard goddamned work" goes unappreciated.

I think that this author is projecting his specific troubles onto the article, and is feeling more personally attacked than in strictly necessary. He even says in the article that he's not exactly gen-y, but he's writing as though it applies to him. Another important point is that this author is focusing on writing as the example for why gen-y isn't doing as well as they should be. Writing is considered by many people a "dream career" and it certainly isn't on-par with factory work as far as difficult labor for little pay is. He needs to consider that his chosen field is not the only one, and his particular struggles are not necessarily indicative of the problems every job in every field is facing. How does he know how computer programmers are doing? What about people who work multiple minimum-wage jobs? This author apparently does think he's special as represented by the fact that the only points he chose to focus on in the article were things that he could directly complain about in his own life.

I think that while the author brings up a lot of very interesting and relevant points, they get lost in his inflammatory language. Even though I'm a part of Generation Y, and he is yelling at the critics of Generation Y, I almost feel like he's yelling at me. It's simply unpleasant to read an article that is so aggressive and frankly, unsophisticated. If you need to employ curse words to communicate your ideas, your ideas and way of expressing them are not strong.

I agree with all of these comments, I had to end up just skimming the article because it was a real tough read. His aggressive language and stance on the subject makes his article seem more appropriate for an ALL CAPS INTERNET ARGUMENT than an article. That aside, he makes good points but they are lost in his writing style.
