It was a really stupid comment to make, but I don't think it should result in a $75,000 fine. The only justification I see for the fine is the fact that sports players are now looked up to a lot and are publicized all the time. Just like a politician would be criticized a lot if they indirectly offended a certain group of people, a sports player will be criticized as well. However, a $75,000 fine is excessive in this situation, but it doesn't take away from the fact that the comment was uncalled for and unnecessary
Although a 75k fine does seem steep, the NBA has to crack down on incidents like this because they do not want to develop and anti-gay reputation. While viewing this clip, we must not judge Roy as a person, because professional athletes are people to, and like people, they are going to make mistakes. Roy made a mistake, and what's important is what he learns from it, i think the fine will serve as a great reminder for him to be more poised and controlled during press conferences. ye.
He should have been more careful, but fining him for that silly reason is just ridiculous. He made a small mistake, we all do. Thousands of people use the expression "No homo" every day and nothing happens to them, why should he suffer? I think it is very unfair towards him!
