This article basically tells the story of a very tough sheriff and how he uses racial profiling to target potential illegal immigrants, and discusses how a judge ruled against him in court. Where else do we still see racial profiling like this today? Is racial profiling likely to cease soon, although we all do have biases in us?

With an issue such as this where there is a race associated with the majority of the illegal immigration, it becomes increasingly difficult to try and not use superficial prejudice to determine who is and most likely is not a candidate for illegal immigration. Sheriff Arpaio, especially in the area of Phoenix, has an extremely difficult job of keeping order without violating Constitutional Rights. The humiliation that someone might experience when pulled over and discovered to be a citizen, and then that person knowing that they were profiled for their race makes me wonder what a respectful alternative would be that is still affective.

I think this is an important issue, because it has been a hot-button topic recently, and it's importance is often debated. I think the sheriff is in the wrong here, because although immigration laws do need to be dealt with and the government does have to come to some kind of conclusion soon, it is degrading and humiliating for US citizens to be pulled over due to their skin color in an area that has a large latino population. While I admire his dedication to his job, it's shouldn't be within the sheriff's authority to make these kinds of decisions and he needs to respect peoples privacy and stop pulling people over in the vain hope of catching illegal immigrants. The most important part of this debate is how it affects legal US citizens by making them carry papers or other things to prove their identification in a country they rightfully inhabit.
