Demand for copper based products in the Middle East is strong enough to convince the manufacturer to commission a $136m plant that will extend Ducab’s product range into the ‘Extra High Voltage’ cable segment, manufacturing cable systems up to 400kv. The plant is a joint venture between Ducab, DEWA and ADWEA.

The project, code-named "Delta", will see Telstra run a limited trial of a prototype that the telco told ZDNet Australia would "provide a low-cost solution to increase availability of ADSL ports to customers on existing infrastructure to meet existing demand".

Peter Beerepoot, who was responsible for instrumentation process control of the entire project for Shell Eastern Petroleum, says: "We were given the opportunity to develop a complete infrastructure. Our initial thoughts during the front end engineering and design (FEED) phase, was that wireless would give us a number of key benefits. So we considered substitution of local panels, which we believed would bring us advantages in terms of cost reduction and increased efficiency."
