Some fascinating thoughts about media literacy in this era of fake news from one of my to go resources (danah boyd) for social media info for parents & teens. "Media literacy asks people to raise questions and be wary of information that they're receiving. People are. Unfortunately, that's exactly why we're talking past one another."

danah was apparently on a roll today, here's another great article "The United States can only function as a healthy democracy if we find a healthy way to diversify our social connections, if we find a way to weave together a strong social fabric that bridges ties across difference."

Solid article by Alan November "We are in a mission-critical state of losing our democracy unless we broaden our definition of what it means to be literate today. As with reading print, web and media literacy needs to be embedded across the curriculum and within the design of assignments across all grades and subjects. Students need practice, practice, practice."

Interesting read about the challenges of addressing media literacy in school & why it is so important. "Today's schools are focusing on boosting kids' technological proficiency and warning them about the perils of the web. But something critical is missing from this education. On the other end are the skeptics, among them the adults who fear that kids are being thrusted into a world of cyberbullies and pedophiles."

This recent study is why what you are doing in your classrooms to integrate web literacy is so critical: "young people's ability to reason about the information on the Internet can be summed up in one word: bleak"

These adaptations of Bloom's Taxonomy could be helpful for both helping student's choose topics and also helping them evaluate and dig deeper on any topic.

Beth shared this with the faculty regarding the topic: What should all students know? A quote from the article: "...believe that content is important, but particular content is not. What's more valuable is the ability to react to, shape,or apply that knowledge."

The Hacking Project Based Learning resource looks really interesting.

Another example of the "yes, and" thinking for giving feedback. Pixar calls it "plussing" - would be a great way to teach students to give feedback to each other.

Worth looking at the lessons for your particular grade level.
