Take a look at the Make tab and also the Tools under the Explore tab. These activities might be great ways to incorporate coding and web literacy into your lessons.

This is the program my husband used to teach my 8th graders how to code their text for the app. My students loved it and can't wait to code! They code on one side of the screen and see the results on the other side. It gives them instant feedback to see if their code is correct or not.

Digital Natives, Yet Strangers to the Web - 0 views

Interesting read about the challenges of addressing media literacy in school & why it is so important. "Today's schools are focusing on boosting kids' technological proficiency and warning them about the perils of the web. But something critical is missing from this education. On the other end are the skeptics, among them the adults who fear that kids are being thrusted into a world of cyberbullies and pedophiles."

These levers amplify the power of the Essential Project Design Elements and the Project Based Teaching Practices, and ensure they are used in ways that reach all learners. Because equity work is an ongoing process rooted in curiosity and ongoing reflection, the levers are each supported by a guiding question."

Neil Gaiman: Why our future depends on libraries, reading and daydreaming | Books | the... - 1 views

Karen, So glad you posted this. I hope everyone gets a chance to glance at this. The daydreaming, imaginative mind, is the mind of the future. Readers, artists, poets, writers, scientists, mathematicians, and inventors (Tessla comes to mind) use a part of the mind that soars. It looks inwardly, that is, this aspect of mind focuses within--not outside, not out in the "mundane" phenomenal world which is so much emphasized in our device driven daily routine. It can do this too, of course, but it goes inwardly with will power, focus, and determination. How does it do this? Practice. Reading, imagining, writing, doodling--yes doodling--there is research "out there". Read about J.K. Rowling's trip from Birmingham to London on the train and how the "gift" of Harry Potter was given to her. Thanks again, Karen, John
