Full-day preschool associated with increased readiness for kindergarten - 0 views

  •
After spending this rotation in the preschool setting, this article really resonated with me. I haven't been able to spend an entire school year with the children to witness the full extent of their progress but I have seen through videos and personal accounts just how far many of our students have come over the years at our preschool and early intervention program. Research is included in this article that indicates that children who attend a full day preschool program have increased readiness for kindergarten. This is compared to children who don't attend preschool or only attend half day programs. The article also talks about many of the benefits for children and families while having the children attend preschool programs.

Losing our grip: More students entering school without fine motor skills - 1 views

  •
Many students are entering school today with a lack of strength and skill in their fine motor capabilities. This article really showcases this experience from the perspective of the teachers and occupational therapists in schools. According to Linda Cunningham, an occupational therapist in Denver Schools, our students are not gaining enough strength and fine motor skills because of our busy day to day lives. Children learn by exploration and figuring things out on their own and in our ever busier world, they are encouraged more and more to be involved in organized activities and are missing out on time to play and explore on their own. This is definitely an interesting article promoting play for children outside of organized activities.

A Concept to Foster Self-Regulation - 0 views

This is an overview of the Zones of Regulation. I think we briefly talked about the Zones in class, but I have learned so much about it in my school setting. This program is implemented district-wide. Kindergarteners are being introduced to it and it carries over to their middle school years.
