This AOTA fact sheet explains that occupational therapists can work with children of a variety of ages to develop positive interaction skills and appropriate classroom behaviors so they can successfully participate in school. Occupational therapists have specialized skills in emotional regulation, task analysis, assistive technology and activity and environmental modifications. We can also assist children during difficult transitions, such as moving from one school to another or from one grade to the next. These transitions can be made easier and more tolerable by establishing study habits, self-care independence, problem-solving abilities, social skills, vocational interests and self-advocacy.
