The Alberta College of Occupational Therapists provide this document titled "The Role of Occupational Therapy in Psychosocial Interventions" and it first begins with defining psychosocial interventions as a cluster of interactions including screening, assessment, and therapeutic interventions. With OT being a client centered and holistic professional, we are able to identify the needs of clients and provide psychosocial screenings and assessments if needed. This document suggests that OT can work with clients with mental illness and their families to identify and adjust to different stressors as well as work in communities to address challenging behaviors. Ways in which an OT can address a clients psychosocial needs is through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and activity analysis. Then, we are able to help the client to maintain function or find ways to compensate of they are unable to maintain function. Overall, it is important for OTs to be able to address the needs of their clients and use psychosocial interventions to encourage optimal functioning of that client.
