Teacher and Math Teacher Blogs - 0 views

  •
This site gives us access to several different teaching and math blogs (obviously) It is useful to us for getting into the heads and thought processes of people that are successful in the job that we aspire to be in. These people have access and know of many resources open to us that we may not know of, and we can learn a lot from them.

OK.... now this may be useful if you are in an 8th or 9th grade class where many students have cell phones. The students can use their cell phones during a ppt presentation to vote on topics that are talked about and the results are shown on the ppt. Very neat huh?

Good free hosting site. Students can use this to create their own webquest. Comes with the easy to use tools. Would be good for students to do at home if appropriate for your student population.

Use as an online discussion group for questioning students. Not the main use for this website, but it could be used for this novel approach.

Welcome to Discovery Education - 0 views

This site hosts among other things episodes of Math Mansion, which (like brainpop yet slightly less silly) can break up a class and address different learning styles. Like brainpop, this site hosts resources for many different content areas. One cool thing is that there are lesson plans and other resources on this page, some free, some not...

Brain Pop - 0 views

Great way to address different learning styles in your Math class and to break things up into smaller segments to keep kids attention. Unfortunately, you do have to pay for this awesome resource, but I believe it is worth it.

I thought I would choose an interesting non-teaching site today. This site is a tracker of sleep over time. This site would be cool to use in a classroom for tracking the sleep of students for health reasons, but also for math. The ideas that could be used with graphing and the use of points, averages, etc. are promising. Otherwise, this site seems kinda pointless?

This is a great resource with 1000s of 'things' for teachers from presentations, lesson plans, tips/tools all created by a teacher. A great website for a starting teacher. This site is updated often.

Wiki - Free Website - Wetpaint - 0 views

  •
As shown in class today, using a wiki such as wetpaint in place of a power point, blackboard or overhead projector can be successful. The benefit of using and editing problems and activities on a wiki is that your students can access these problems at home. This could also be useful in having the students post content and ask questions.

Live Documents allows you to create documents online to share with a group or community, which has obvious implications as a teacher. A desktop application allows you to create documents offline. This service is free and is great for working in a group setting. Aside from documents, there are also tools for creating 'live presentations'

World Maths Day 09 - 0 views

  •
World Math Day is a global competition/community separated by individuals/schools/teams to all come together one day and complete as many math problems as possible. During this time of year, this is a great way for a math teacher to solidify math facts and create a fun competition between different school teams/classes or different schools.

Welcome to The Teacher's Desk - 0 views

  •
The Teacher's Desk is a tool that has lesson plans, and writing tasks that would be useful for integrating writing into Math or other content areas. It focuses on 5th and 6th grade - and is language arts oriented, though I would explore this website for ideas on how to integrate writing into my class.

Grade 6 - Grade 8 Math Lesson Plans - 0 views

  •
Website with grade specific lesson plans. These plans are very descriptive in what they aim to accomplish and what goals they attempt to meet. Very cool and helpful to a starting teacher trying to develop ideas. Remember, most of what you do in your class is taken and adapted from somewhere else.
