Samson Young - Frames and variations - Viewing Room - Petzel Gallery - 0 views

  •
"Frames and variations, an experiential exhibition, encompassing sound, film and performance, by Hong Kong-based artist Samson Young. The show marks Young's debut solo exhibition with the gallery and will be on view from January 20th to March 4th, 2023, at Petzel's new Chelsea location at 520 W 25th Street. Inspired by the perception of sound and how it is distorted and concealed in cinema, this exhibition is comprised of two new immersive installations that center on the effects of situated listening. Young examines the spatial relationships between the aural source and the viewer's vision, adding to an illusion of sound that encircles the viewer sonically and visually."

"Museum of Sound is a project held in National Museum in Krakow consisting of various actions using sound. We are used to watching art in museums, perceiving it though sight. We forget how important it is to listen to it. Sound can extract unusual stories and revive objects. The first element of the project is Sound Microscope - an interactive sound installation open from March 2013 in the Gallery of Decorative Art in the Main Building of National Museum in Krakow, 1st floor. National Museum's Gallery of Decorative Art is the biggest exposition in Poland - it shows everyday life in Poland and Western Europe from the early Middle Ages up until Art Nouveau. Exhibits that so far have been locked in cabinets have now gained new life thanks to Museum of Sound project. Now, visiting a museum consists of not only watching objects from the past, but also listening to their story."

"SONIC ACTS Festival - The Geologic Imagination Raviv Ganchrow: In the Company of Long Waves 1 March 2015 - Paradiso, Amsterdam, the Netherlands --- The saturated spectrum of infrasound suggests that toned-down sounds don't necessarily diminish. The lowest threshold of human hearing is also the upper register of an immense sonic territory that literally interfaces landmass with oceans and skies. Raviv Ganchrow introduces the theme of extensive acoustic waves in the context of his Long-Wave Synthesis project where marine oscillations, streaking meteors, calving glaciers, gas flares and nuclear explosions coexist; where sound become so heavy it's affected by gravity; and where oscillations slow down to such an extent that they spill over into weather."

Death Wish Mixtape: Sounding Trayvon Martin's Death | Sounding Out! - 0 views

"After hearing about the murder of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed teenager who was shot to death by George Zimmerman in a gated community in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2012, I grappled with the urge to grab my godsons, nephews, cousins, brothers, and husband and never let go. I grappled with the Du Boisian question of the color-line, redressing it to consider "what does it feel like to be not only a problem but a target?" With these thoughts in my mind, I especially grappled with listening to the audio records of the 911 calls documenting the death of Trayvon Martin, just released late Friday March 16thby the Sanford police department."

"The 68,338 fans that packed into CenturyLink Field set the world record Sept. 15 for noise at an outdoor sports stadium at 136.6 decibels, propelling the Seahawks to a rousing 29-3 home-opening win over NFC West rival San Francisco. The previous record was 131.76, set at a Turkish soccer club game March 8, 2011, and the loudest CenturyLink had ever been before was 112 decibels."

Frontiers | Soundscape in Times of Change: Case Study of a City Neighbourhood During th... - 0 views

  •
"The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) lockdown meant a greatly reduced social and economic activity. Sound is of major importance to people's perception of the environment, and some remarked that the soundscape was changing for the better. But are these anecdotal reports based in truth? Has traffic noise from cars and airplanes really gone down, so that more birdsong can be heard? Have socially distanced people quietened down? This article presents a case study of the human perception of environmental sounds in an urban neighborhood in the Basque Country between 15 March and 25 May 2020."
