March 6, 2009 Richard Edelman - 6 A.M.: We're Entering a New Era of Mutual Social Responsibility Image representing Edelman as depicted in Crun... Image via CrunchBase I find Richard Edelman the best informed business executive on the Internet-his articles are not gotchas but based on the knowledge of an educated man-In this day and age when people think a dangling participle is an add on for an I Pod it is a pleasure reading article where lines are ragged the deck is perfect and a well executed headline-and he undestands semantic's general semantic's and mathematic's- n pedagogy, a sentence diagram is a pictorial representation of the grammatical structure of a natural-language sentence. A sentence diagram is a form of a parse tree. And Mr Edelmans Staff at http://www.edelmandigital.com/blog/ are also excellent wordsmiths- via Richard Edelman - 6 A.M.: We're Entering a New Era of Mutual Social Responsibility. This is more than an ordinary post it tell's a sad story in a few well chosen words! I also follow on my Tabbloid Fred Wilson Gotham Gal Steve Rubel and more ! Gotham Gal is one of my wife's favorites she gives you Scrapple from the Apple "Scrapple from the Apple" is a bebop composition by Charlie Parker, commonly regonized today as a jazz standard, written in F major. The song borrows its chord progression from "Honeysuckle Rose", a common practice for Parker, as he based many of his successful tunes over already well-known chord changes.tabbloid_2009-01-10_0901-gotham-gal I use Scrapple from the Apple Above Since Gotham Gal has among other things great food features Now Scrapple , Scrapple is a savory mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour. The mush is formed into a loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then fried before serving. Scraps of meat left over from butchering, not used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. Scrapple is best known as a regional American food of Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. Micro Persuasion: Three Ways the Media is Innovating with New Interfaces - 0 views

  •
Innovating with New Interfaces Fire and Water Pendant Image by lunarpersuasion via Flickr I have seen very few people that are always on the mark Steve Rubel :-IS "Several months ago I had lunch with a major media company executive who told me that, in the future, content will not be subsidized by banner ads splashed liberally on news pages. This is something that the current economic situation is hopefully accelerating as display ad quality plummets to new lows. I remain convinced that the media must innovate their way out of this situation from both editorial and sales, but no one seems to be really doing so on the advertising side. If you want a glimpse of what's next for media then you need to really look to the editorial side of the house. As we've seen, that's where all the innovation is happening these days - and its changing how we engage with content. Here a look are three promising approaches and their potential implications." Steve Rubel TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2009 Biography Steve Rubel, SVP, Director of Insights for Edelman Digital, is responsible for keeping Edelman and its clients in the vanguard. He studies global technology, media and online trends and shapes them into actionable insights and marketing communications strategies. In his role, Rubel curates and writes a monthly white paper on digital trends. These are distributed free to clients. In addition, he draws on these insights in his role as a senior strategic advisor to Edelman clients such as PepsiCo, Zagat, Unilever, Microsoft and many others. Rubel supports the account planning processes, intellectual property development and the firm's innovation and business development efforts. He is a member of the Edelman Digital senior leadership committee. His Micro Persuasion blog on digital trends, which launched in 2004, today has 50,000 daily readers and has been cited as a must-read by the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CNET, PC Magazine and Forrester Research. Image via CrunchBase February 20, 2009 We Will Prove You Wrong "Jeff Jarvis handed me a copy of his new book, "What Would Google Do?" after we finished a brainstorm on health care costs at the World Economic Forum. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the author as a visionary and change agent. He does not disappoint in his very pointed and inspirational text that is a must-read for anyone in the communications business. His central thesis is that control has moved to the people, that companies are advised to tap into the power of networks and that marketing must be based on relationships."Richard Edleman The last person to attempted to take a stab at Mr Edleman's Profession was Jason Calacanis-It is pretty hard to criticize the field of public relations unless you have a backround in Semantics,General Semantics, Mathematics,Game Theory and Statistics- Not just mouthing the words but are educated in these fields-General Semantics is a field pioneered by Alfred Korzibski and promoted by Carl Rogers,S I Hayakawa and Antatol Rapaport-and others- The map is not the territory is a remark by Polish-American scientist and philosopher Alfred Korzybski, encapsulating his view that an abstraction derived from something, or a reaction to it, is not the thing itself, e.g., the pain from a stone falling on your foot is not the stone; one's opinion of a politician, favorable or unfavorable, is not that person; a metaphorical representation of a concept is not the concept itself; and so on. A specific abstraction or reaction does not capture all facets of its source-e.g., the pain in your foot does not convey the internal structure of the stone, you don't know everything that is going on in the life of a politician, etc.-and thus may limit an individual's understanding and cognitive abilities unless the two are distinguished. Richard Edelman - 6 A.M.-The Right to Know "My own experience this past fall indicates the wisdom of transparency. The week before I went into the hospital for prostate surgery, I called my most senior colleagues to let them know that I would be having the procedure. I spoke to those clients whom I work with directly. I then drafted a memo to the entire Edelman staff, to be released the moment I got out of surgery, describing my condition and my confidence in a full recovery. Though some of my senior team would have preferred a more nuanced approach, I opted for complete disclosure, because my colleagues had the right to know." In 2008, Two Contrarians Showed Blogging is Alive and Well - Authenticities - Edelman Digital I like the fact that Steve Rubel supports using stats. "Earlier this year Wired magazine created a stir when it declared that starting a blog today for thought leadership or money is fruitless. "The time it takes to craft sharp, witty blog prose is better spent expressing yourself on Flickr, Facebook, or Twitter," Paul Boutin wrote. There's validity to the argument. For example, there's no way I would start a gadget blog given the competition. Not only do you have Engadget, Gizmodo and Crunchgear, but now the media's getting into the game as well. The New York Times recently launched Gadgetwise. Wired's thesis is certainly the conventional wisdom today. Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook all posted massive growth this year. Blogging, meanwhile, declined by some measures. Daily postings receded from 1.5 million per day last year to 900,000 in 2008, according to Technorati. Conventional wisdom, however, is where you find contrarians thriving. And in 2008 two stood out - Jeremiah Owyang and Chris Brogan. As you can see from the Google Trends traffic chart (also below), which includes Micro Persuasion (my blog), they're eating my lunch! Americans' trust in corporations plummets - South Florida Business Journal: - 0 views

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 3:43pm EST  |  Modified: Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 12:00am Americans’ trust in corporations plummets South Florida Business Journal Print Email Reprints RSS Feeds Add to Del.icio.us Digg This Comments One of Barack Obama’s campaign messages was the need to restore trust, and, if a new survey is any indication, he’s got his work cut out for him. Nearly two-thirds of the public trusts corporations less than they did a year ago, according to the 10th Edelman Trust Barometer. Just 38 percent of respondents said they trust business to do what is right – down 20 percent from last year. And that lack of trust comes from the top. Only 17 percent said they trust information coming from a company’s CEO. That’s lower than those Edelman measured after the Enron scandal, the dot-com bust and Sept. 11.

March 7, 2009 YouTube - Joe Pass - All the Things You Are - Likaholix Joe Pass Joe Pass (via last.fm) I have been also adding Music to my Likaholix page especially music by older Jazz Greats Likaholix Rocks and is so easy to use- Joe Pass recorded a series of albums during the 1960s for the Pacific Jazz label, including the early classics Catch Me, 12-String Guitar, For Django, and Simplicity. In 1963, Pass received Downbeat magazine's "New Star Award". Pass was also featured on Pacific Jazz recordings by Gerald Wilson, Bud Shank, and Les McCann. Pass toured with George Shearing in 1965. Mostly, however, during the 1960s he did TV and recording session work in Los Angeles. He was a sideman with Louis Bellson, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Joe Williams, Della Reese, Johnny Mathis, and worked on TV shows including the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, The Steve Allen Show, and others. In the early 1970s, Pass and guitarist Herb Ellis were performing together regularly at Donte's jazz club in Los Angeles. This collaboration led to Pass and Ellis recording the very first album on the new Concord Jazz label, entitled simply Jazz/Concord (#CJS-1), along with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Jake Hanna. In the early 1970s, Pass also collaborated on a series of music books, and his Joe Pass Guitar Style (written with Bill Thrasher) is considered a leading improvisation textbook for students of jazz. Norman Granz, the producer of Jazz at the Philharmonic and the founder of Verve Records signed Pass to Granz's new Pablo Records label in 1970. In 1974, Pass released his landmark solo album Virtuoso on Pablo Records. Also in 1974, Pablo Records released the album The Trio featuring Pass, Oscar Peterson, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. At the Grammy Awards of 1975, The Trio won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance by a Group. As part of the Pablo Records "stable," Pass also recorded with Benny Carter, Milt Jackson, Herb Ellis, Zoot Sim
