Madurai Airport now known as Madurai International Airport is a popular airport serving Madurai district in the state of Tamil Nadu. The airport was established in 1957. It has a land area of 502 acres. Madurai airport has two adjacent terminals, the old terminal and the new integrated terminal which handles both international and domestic flights. The airport handles more than 245 flights weekly and connects Madurai to major cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and international destinations like Singapore, Dubai, and Colombo. Madurai is the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu. The city is famous for its natural beauty, temples, food, Wildlife Tours and religious sites. The city is surrounded by three hills, Yanaimalai (Elephant Hill), Nagamalai (Snake Hill), and Pasumalai (Cow Hill). The city is also famous for its fragrant Jasmine flowers, which are transported to other cities across India. The Meenakshi Amman Temple is the most famous temple in Madurai. Madurai airport is also a gateway for exploring nearby tourist destinations such as Rameshwaram, Kodaikanal, and Dhanushkodi.
