Resveratrol Health Benefits - 1 views

  •
In the last few years there has been much talk about resveratrol, due to the fact that this substance seems to have a very strong antioxidant, antimicrobial and anticancer action.Just take a look at a few health benefits of resveratrol: * Resveratrol may be highly beneficial for the teeth, because it prevent the adhesion of harmful bacteria in them and prevents tooth decay. The findings of Italian researchers show that drinking a glass of red wine a day can help maintain dental health and reduce the need for fillings. What is more, last year, a team of American researchers also discovered that certain chemicals found in large quantities in the seeds and skins of grapes prevent the adhesion of corrosive bacteria in dental enamel. The most dangerous of these bacteria called streptococcus mutans, live in the oral cavity and feed off sugars that come from our diet. These bacteria stick to the enamel, and trigger a process, in which acids (sugars have been metabolized by acid bacteria) begin to open holes in the teeth. In a recent study, researchers from the University of Pavia in Italy exposed the bacteria to a small amount of red wine (after extracting the alcohol), so to be sure what component of red wine is actually effective. The results showed that after exposure to resveratrol, the bacteria were no longer able to adhere to the teeth or the mouth.

Americans' trust in corporations plummets - South Florida Business Journal: - 0 views

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2009, 3:43pm EST  |  Modified: Wednesday, January 28, 2009, 12:00am Americans’ trust in corporations plummets South Florida Business Journal Print Email Reprints RSS Feeds Add to Del.icio.us Digg This Comments One of Barack Obama’s campaign messages was the need to restore trust, and, if a new survey is any indication, he’s got his work cut out for him. Nearly two-thirds of the public trusts corporations less than they did a year ago, according to the 10th Edelman Trust Barometer. Just 38 percent of respondents said they trust business to do what is right – down 20 percent from last year. And that lack of trust comes from the top. Only 17 percent said they trust information coming from a company’s CEO. That’s lower than those Edelman measured after the Enron scandal, the dot-com bust and Sept. 11.
