I found a great graphic on Flickr by doing a search for "PLN PLE" which shows the relationship between PLEs and PLN. I appreciated seeing this relationship visually as I was not quite sure initially how the two related and were different one from another. The other valuable point I gleaned from this graphic which helps me understand better how Personal Learning Networks function, is the point that there is a "sharing spirit" associated with PLNs. I find this to be one of my weaknesses in participating in Social Networks. I like to find communities, and lurk to find out the information I am looking for, but rarely do I contribute myself. I think this is mostly because I don't think I have very much that I can offer that is unique. I do think that sharing is important though.
Thanks Todd, I liked this graphic and may integrate it in future iterations of this class. It is helpful to see a depiction of the relationship. Your comment about lurking vs. contributing is interesting. Typically, we lurk more when 1) we are still learning about a network(s), the content covered, and the cultural norms, and/or 2) we're too busy to contribute! Perhaps you are still in a place of "finding your voice," or still exploring the value of social networks in your own learning process?
