Change Connections - Home - 0 views

  •
This is a space for your ideas. To collectively exchange, connect and collaborate for social good and to foster new thinking on groundbreaking social innovation. Change Connections is part of a wider initiative to support Nokia's potential to offer empowering solutions through new connections - between people, places, information and ideas - that improve the quality of lives, globally. We've undertaken a series of conversations and events to find out where the future of communication technology could help billions of people around the world better their lives - from organizing for collective power, to accessing health care, or learning even when getting to school is not a possibility. Along the way, it's become undeniable that this happens by building community. That's why we're connecting with you, here, now: to create a space for open ideation and change. On this site you'll find ideas from leading thinkers we've interviewed, background on some of the issues and opportunities at hand, links to our friends, and most importantly opportunities for you to connect to people, current work, new ideas and future possibilities in new and inspired ways. We've started a conversation and we're asking you to join and to help shape the potential future of communication technology for good. So jump in, and change connections.

"# Who invests in Global Partnerships funds and why: Beckett noted that GP funds are structured to appeal to a variety of social investors: * Philanthropic investors who like the 12-to-1 leverage that donating to a fund offers * Foundation investors who want to align their portfolios with their mission * Individual investors who like the fixed-income-like return and the business-like approach to alleviating poverty. "LoCo works to support small local business to create a new economy based on relationships, self-reliance, and local economic development. We're not saying you should never buy another foreign made computer or car, but we do celebrate and support what is local to BC, those people and products/services that make us unique and a viable economy. Our bias for local is based on the principals of sustainability - that local businesses enhance our community, connect and support us socially, enhance wealth and employment by circulating dollars many times between businesses, and environmentally."

Moka Joe Coffee - Welcome - 0 views

  •
Moka Joe is a wholesale roaster of 100% Fair Trade, certified organic, bird friendly, shade grown, Kosher coffee. We work hard to entice the hundreds of natural compounds found in coffee beans into wonderful roasts and blends to suit every taste and preference. We are a small-batch, wholesale micro-roaster that deeply cares about the origins and growing methods used to create your cup of coffee, almost as much as you care about the flavor and aroma. We became a B Corp to challenge ourselves to step up to be as socially and environmentally responsible as we can as individuals and as a company. Arabica beans have the most flavor and aroma of all coffee beans. At higher elevations the beans grow and develop more slowly, leading to more complex and enhanced flavor characteristics. These are the beans we search out to purchase and roast into specialty premium gourmet coffees. As orders come in, our roastmaster selects the combination of beans and roasts them in small batches. This roasting process uses less direct heat so the roast is more gently controlled, ending with a consistent product with consistent taste - batch after batch.

About ShoreBank Pacific ShoreBank Pacific is the first commercial bank in the United States with a commitment to environmentally sustainable community development. We believe that long-term community prosperity goes hand-in-hand with a healthy environment. With that vision, ShoreBank Pacific, a Washington State chartered, FDIC insured bank, was formed in 1997 as a joint project of ShoreBank Corp., the nation's first community development bank, and Ecotrust™, an environmental non-profit. Through our lending programs, ShoreBank Pacific brings together conservation and community and economic development. We continue to create wealth in communities that wouldn't have access to banking otherwise. We've built a fantastic place to work that is founded on honesty and excellence. We became a B Corporation to support our mission and lend our credibility to a system that identifies and supports "good businesses." When you deposit your money at ShoreBank Pacific, you are helping to create sustainable companies, vibrant communities, and healthy environments by providing funds to our lending programs. Like other banks, we provide commercial loans; however, unlike other banks, we are conscientious to whom we lend, and potential customers are "scored" using a program of sustainability criteria, including conservation, community development, and economy measures. A healthy and sustainable business will translate into a healthy and sustainable community and economy. ShoreBank Pacific is wholly owned by ShoreBank Corporation, the nation's first community development and environmental banking corporation. The Change We Seek™ ShoreBank Pacific profitably assists businesses, and through them their communities, to be sustainable in economic, social, and environmental practices. * We lend money from our EcoDeposits™ program to businesses and non-profits that are committed to improving their sustainable footprint. Seattle's TEDx: The business of technology, for good of society - 0 views

"ogether, those two things are really propelling Seattle forward, and we thought we should try to focus the event in that way, on this notion of social entrepreneurship and technology. Because it's also what we're interested in, intellectually, in our program. That was our premise for the event, and through that, we started finding speakers, all of them regionally based, that fit that mission. It was actually pretty easy."
