Playing History - 0 views

Ok--i totally should have invented this site. It collects links to history connected video games. They use this term loosely, so it might be a whole game like some of the stuff from icivd we use in grade 7, or a little simulation like a "build the parthenon" or "follow's sherman's march"  activity from an education website. You can search for what might help you.

Latinos and the Fourteenth Amendment: A Primary Document Activity | Teaching Tolerance - 0 views

  •
From Teaching tolerance, this is a lesson that describe the Case of Hernandez vs. Texas in 1954. In this case, the court noted that even that even thought latinos are considered white, they are still a "group" that has to be treated equally under the law based on 14th amendment. In texas, Latinos had unofficially been barred from jurt service, making the trial of Latinos unfair under the 14th amendment.

DebateGraph - 0 views

  •
This seems like it has potential. O one level it is a mind mapping tool to do bubble and tree maps, etc. On the next level, people can chat wit each other about what they put down so they can work together. It is focused on debate/opinion, and gives people ways to riank evidence from strongest to weakest visually.... good for any argumentative writing perhaps.

Crowdsourced hate speech database could spot early signs of genocide | Ars Technica - 0 views

Fascinating...the idea is that if people report hate speech into a computer database, one could see more quickly where genocide or serious precursors to it are happening.

The long battle of ideas that eventually defeated slavery - Opinion - The Boston Globe - 0 views

  •
A new book that collects a huge number of antislavery writings, from the first antislavery statements in the late 1600s from quakers up through the Civil War. I'll see if I can get a copy and it could be used in both grade 7 and 8.
